I think Kvyat needs to be reminded to be a team player. He should have defended against Sainz and let Albon pass or even let him pass in the later stages when Albon had fresher tyres.
No driver will allow a teammate through without a specific order, or maybe if he has a terminal problem. .
On lap 1, Albon was just poking ahead of Sainz after turn 1 and on the inside line going to the corner in turn 2. Kvyat for some reason went to defend against Albon rather which opened the door for Sainz to go on the outside and overtake both of them in one corner. Had he stuck on the racin line, Sainz had no option but to slow down and yield to Albon.
After that the team prolly played it safe and brought the points home.

Kvyat was on the racing line, it was Sainz who tried an opportunistic move on the outside which turned out to be great. If Kvyat had taken that outside line, he would have been squeezed by Gasly in the next turn, thus becoming vulnerable to both Sainz and Albon. It was a very mature and calculated first lap for Kvyat and as we can see it resulted in +10 points for Torro Rosso.

What he should have done was rely on Albon and blocked Sainz. As I said he needs reminding of being a team player and these things should be discussed in team meetings. The mid field is so tight the last thing TR wants is to loose points like Haas.
Whilst the team brought home 10, more were achievable keeping Sainz behind.

Sainz has learned to be a charging Bull and his over aggressiveness has benefitted him a few times, other times he has looked a bit silly and impatient himself.
I agree strategy-wise the drivers need to work together to keep other midfield teams at bay but I think Kvyat has to be conservative due to penalty points against his license. Really should have fewer penalties but Giovinazzi got away with a racing incident that he has caused multiple times now and it's apparent Alfa is using the slow Giovinazzi to sabotage other teams races.

Counting on Daniil and Alex to whoop ass in Canada. Employ the tactics of other teams, kill two birds with one stone, make it happen.

Kvyat lunge on Sainz on Lap 68 was the most interesting part of this whole race. Great move 👌

Good race by Kvyat. Seems to be finding his stride now.

It is not just driving fast but keeping eye on occasions and he benefited very well from Stroll's attack.

I haven't seen the race…any confirmation about Alex' issue? Was it something PU-related?

I think they retired the car for a free gearbox change next race. They were nowhere after breaking the front wing. A shame

Should not be surprised to see the Toro Rosso's victims of midfield race incidents. Gio deserves way more penalty points for his dirty driving.

But wow, Daniil Kvyat, you made my day!

TR Twitter said they noticed something odd in the data so they decided to retire, Ted's Notebook said they're saving the PU mileage.

Franz Tost quoted at STR's official website
At this point, the race was more or less over for Alex because he lost too much time after the collision, so we retired him to save mileage on the PU.
Err, cough, cough, I mean there was an anomaly on the PU, so he had to retire, honest.
Note, the second quote may be fictional :-)
