Couldn't follow the session, but I saw they were relatively low on the timesheets. Anything particularly wrong, or they haven't pushed yet?
They started off with long runs on the hard. They may have had some faster laps planned but the red flag put an end to that. I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Commentators were saying the car looks well balanced.

Both AlphaTauri and Ferrari are looking very strong here. Hopefully there's more to come from McLaren, because with what we have seen so far they are in trouble.

Definitely not setting the timing screens alight just yet. Mid-pack, almost 2sec off the pace. I'm hoping they're on a slightly different program to others.

Haven't done a soft run yet, about to start them now.

Their medium runs were a long way off the leaders already. 1:16.4 for Lando just now on softs, almost a second off.

Yeah just did them. Not good.

Disappointing so far. But it somehow feels crazy to think they are 1s behind AlphaTauri, when that difference was barely over a tenth last race. Still hopeful there's more to come tomorrow.

both drivers looking VERY ragged. not sure if that is a function of fuel load or just setup not dialed in yet

Seems that's just the pace this weekend. We're looking no better than 5th fastest car, so minor points fight with Alpine and Aston is the reality.

But this is an absolutely horrid swing of performance. If this turns out to be the same gap in qualifying tomorrow then that means they lost 0.7s to AlphaTauri between two race weekends. That's huge.

Dont forget the high risk of rain on race day. Will shake things around.

But not completely unexpected. McLaren were quick at Bahrain last year, but were slower at Imola. The car's strengths/weaknesses are relatively similar given the development restrictions being required for the PU. Alpha Tauri had a bit of a false race position in Bahrain, they were quicker than the results show. This is going to be an arduous season.

The long runs may be more revealing as to our relative pace.

Just to jump in over here, McLaren was a little off pace at Imola last year as well. They were a good bit slower than Renault and AT. If they are down today, it wouldn't be unexpected.

I don't think that's a reflection of losing pace. Different tracks are better for different cars.
