So DR ended up quicker, but not sure whether Lando got his best time in.

The gap to the front is quite big though. Friday sandbagging or true deficit? Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

"I believe Lando and Daniel possibly running different chassis" - I don't see why they would do that, especially when the fight with Ferrari is this close..

Daniel was running a cooling vent on the side of the chassis whilst Lando wasn't (it was likely to split the different cooling configs to see which one performs better)

Lando had poor S3 in his bets lap IIRC. I think ~34.2 was possible for him.

It's fp1, and this is the time of the week they usually evaluate their aero options; cooling vents are a part of that. It cooling vent can be added or removed with the change of a single panel. That has nothing to do with the chassis.

Alpine looking very good around here.

Not particularly good for McLaren, but let's hope they will have something more for tomorrow.

Why is there a pattern emerging where Mclaren look good in Friday morning practise then utter trash in the afternoon?

Honestly, it is very annoying. You don't know what to expect. Especially when Lando says "they willl barely make Q3"

There hasn't been a single weekend so far where practice has gotten me excited for quali/race. On the contrary, it just makes the wait miserable.

Has Lando said that this weekend already???? or are quoting his usual scepticism from previous weekends?

It's a good thing practice is to go over setup options, aerodynamic refinements, fuel loads and tyre management and not for setting ultimate lap times.

It's been apparent since last season that McLaren doesn't push as hard, run with more fuel or lower engine modes than other teams in practice. Ferrari seems to do the opposite looking quite good in practice and falling back during qualifying and the race.

Have some patience and trust in the process. Rome wasn't built in a day.
