the world changed with the 56 Thunderbird - its styling cues adopted rapidly by many makers of family cars eg Rootes Group
mass producers of 1 medium size family car in 3 brands (Hillman, Singer, and Sunbeam) with a smaller model under way

the Sunbeam Alpine was designed from scratch to look like a tiny T'bird
it was (at first ?) made by an outside company (Armstrong-Siddeley - whose useful hemis went into RGs larger (Humber) car)
like the Volvo P1800 was made at first by Jensen in the UK not Volvo in Sweden

Chrysler started buying into RG in '64 and were the majority shareholders by '67
Alpine production (total 69251) was stopped in Jan '68
developed for the USA 6495 Ford 260 engined Tigers were made from '64-'67 then 572 289 mk 2 version 289 ending June '67
the Tiger was named after the famous 5 litre V12 Sunbeam semi-LSR car of the '20s (as I mentioned re the Delage photo)

the Alpine-era Chrysler UK production line (Hillman Hunter) was sold to Iran - and in quite recent production there

Have got to say though, particularly if you have seen the size of some of these, they are totally difficult for what the greyhairs call 'parking' in Australia.
A fellow I know was having his first shot at it (post divorce) in town, very nervous etc etc and all he managed was to set off the hazard warning lights.
