Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Looking closer, there's a CF panel covering the compressor outlet location with one screw holding it in place which would be the same as last year's location:

I was just about to repost that picture saying that the panel looks very temporary.

I am surprised by the way they have bent the small pipes in that picture re-posted above (same on other pipes in other pictures). Making it kink on the inside of the bend. I appreciate that by doing it that way the metal on the outside is not stretched & thinned. I also appreciate that the inside of the bend does not induce turbulence nearly as much as the outside. But even so I am surprised and very interested that Honda chooses to do it like that. I also think the cross sectional area gets reduced when the pipe is bent in that manner.

Breakthrough I believe refers to new combustion hardware/process. My understanding not ready yet...but will be mid-season. Come on 740 kW....please.............

Indeed. The secret sauce as I think he put it. These learnings implemented into the new 2019 unit, with whatever enhancements that brings, could make for a very interesting year.

That's just a baggy firesleeve, the actual hose is nice and straight.

I notice there is only one lambda sensor per bank. I would have thought an F1 engine would have one sensor for each cylinder(?).
They have pressure, temperature, knock sensors per cilinder, probably is enough. Also torque sensor on the crank can show enough.

It will be too close to the valve and burn away if you want to place them in the runners

Not much really new from the garage photos we have seen before i would say. The fuel pipe heading under the exhaust i believe that was spotted already.

So, if honda located the fuel rails underneath the exhaust pipes, what are the round plugs for? I believe they got a plug for the spark plug, the fuel injector and the pressure sensor mentioned above.

But which cable sits where?

Crofty commented as Gasly defended against Raikkonen approaching 130R that the Honda seems a good match for the Ferrari right now and apparently has 60hp more than the previous engine.
That's an enormous bump up in power..
