Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Measuring reliability over a season. Encountering reliability on track can sometimes be rectified without having to replacing parts that counts towards a parts replacement penalty, Honda, ‘to some extant’ had managed to avoid much of such encounters on track by pushing out numbers of parts used over the season although disguised as updates, but that sort of reliability can also result in point’s loss. Having said all that, the facts over last season still shows that the FERRARI power unit was the most reliable of the four on the grid statistically.
Was it? They had K, H and turbo failures across all three teams. The frequency is one thing, the spread of issues is more interesting, it doesn't seem to be one common fail point and each issue occurred at all different life states, new, mid and old PU's.

Anyway HONDA PU Hardware & Software.

The biggest upgrade of 2019, the spec 5 with the new turbo has never been used.
This has been further improved and will start as spec 1 of 2020.

They decided not to release it in 2019. You will see it this year.

The same cycle of preseason hype/triple every year never fails to amuse. Yeah yeah they have 100hp in their pocket but couldn't use it. Someone's been inhaling way too much fumes.

I am not a Mercedes,Ferrari or Renault fan so what happens there is not of interest as long as RbrHonda beat them.

Marko’s raised demands comes after Honda revealed that their next challenge was to give Red Bull an engine that make them a threat for race wins on all Formula 1 circuits, rather than just a select few, which has often been in the case in recent years.

“In 2019 it was, we don’t say ‘unstable’, but we had a preference in the circuit,” Honda’s F1 managing director Masashi Yamamoto told Autosport.

“We shouldn’t have that kind of thing.

“So we can tell to Max ‘we are here’, good everywhere, in every race. We have to provide that kind of engine, doing good development.”
