Pretty sharp bend on that middle header primary. Looks to be for the rearmost cylinder.

Very tight packaging of the exhaust manifolds.
What have they learnt now as opposed to the previous years with exhuast manifolds?

That any tiny efficiency loses are minimal compared to the aerodynamic gains of packaging everything so close.
Kinda the theme of 2018 cars.

Yep, you only have to look at the first year of the PU's where Merc had a log manifold running for packaging reasons until the found a tubular design that was tight enough to do what they wanted, or even last year with Mclaren sacrificing even a few precious Honda horsepower with a tighter rear end and manifold.

That middle* cylinder has really nasty kink in it! how does that even flow good?

That’s actually the middle cylinder and it isn’t kinked. Its an illusion.
It will flow just fine.

actually yes meant the middle. So the bend projects outward to the viewer then. Looks like it does a helix!

That's exactly what it is, a single loop helix - it's just hard to spot on that photo because the wrap distorts the perspective

Heard through the grapevine:

At a FIA meeting last week Renault have proposed even lower oil consumption limits. Ferrari was the only manufacturer to reject the proposal stating that they can't meet the current limit (!?).

It was also proposed to limit the auxiliary oil tank volume. Again, Ferrari declined stating they need at least 4 litres.

Yes, this comes from a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy etc, but so far it's been a reliable source.

Could ferrari be running a long stroke engine with scavwnging ports at the base of the cylinders? They can snuff crank case oil vapours from there if the boost into the scrank case is high enough.

Bore is regulated hence stroke is same for all manufacturer

As already stated the Bore is mandated and so the stroke will be the same for all of the engines.
And that would be straight illegal if they did.
And besides the oil consumption is not high enough to be what you suggest anyway.

Ferrari running very low tension piston rings? Benefit of reduced friction at high rpm.

The idea was floated months ago that some of the PU manufacturers might do this

F1 engines have always ran the lowest possible ring tension.
