No Gear Knob In F1 Car?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I wonder where is the gear knob of an F1 car?

Is an F1 car have only throttle and brake pedal?

Yes there is. It's next to the handbrake they use in sharp turns like here in Canada.

There used to be a gear lever, but hasn't been for what ... 20 years or so?
Now they use paddles on the back of the steering wheel.

Stop spreading false information! It's a known fact only Kimi uses handbrake in the hairpin!

You can see on Rosberg's onboard the moment that he pulls the handbrake to try to go around Verstappen. Unfortunately it didn't work very well.

Hey, don't let these assholes discourage you. We're all here to learn.

The simple fact of the matter is that transmission technology has evolved quite a bit over the last 25-30 years, and many of the components traditionally associated with their construction have been replaced with modern solutions that are far more efficient. The must-watch video below offers what I feel is an excellent summary...

Hope that helps. :D

It looks like the fun's over. 3 upvotes for technical content?

If the OP is still confused, here's an article, a video, and a picture.

Article: Understanding F1 - Gearbox

Note: Video is a bit old; they now have 8 gears, as stated in the above article, and Ross Brawn (the old guy waxing lyrical about the gearboxes being like Swiss watches) has been fishing for years.

Below shows the rear of the steering wheel, where the clutch (used only when stopped) is the lower arrows, the gear-change paddles are above (only one is arrowed).

Yeah, I know. He discusses fishing briefly at 40m20s. Was fresh in my mind.
