MGU-H trickery?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

make it a bit heavier (0.5kg) and spin it faster when there is excess energy.
IF my calculations are right, speeding up turbo from 100,000 to 120,000 rpm would easily store 100 kJ.
doing this many times during the lap would allow teams to defeat 4MJ rule.
But then you add more inertia to the turbine and the compressor, so there has to be a careful compromise.
I don't think inertia is bad for the turbo, but it could impact the handling of the car.
I remember that the rules say that the MGU-H "may be clutched" so its possible to do this, but I don't know if it would help or not.

The MGUs must run at a pre tty high voltage to deliver that kind of energy otherwise the current would be so high as to make cable size and switch gear prohibitively large.I imagine the voltage must come through a switch mode supply where the voltage is switched at a high frequency before going through a choke to lift the voltage. This keeps the size of all the associated gear smaller.hope this helps.Neilo.
