There will be scope for battery development, a first in all-electric motorsport, in a category for which no introduction date has so far been announced.

Fast-charging at pitstops during the races is part of the the FIA's concept, while manufacturers will be able to develop two or four-wheel-drive machinery under the new rules.

Torque vectoring, the modulation of power to each driven wheel, will be permitted as a performance aid.

Wednesday's announcement from the FIA stated that its electric GT category "will set new standards for electric vehicles in motorsport in terms of performance and range".

Isn't Formula E's grip only on the single seater aspect of electric racing?

There's also Extreme E for electric rally racing.

But this GT series seems interesting, as it's not at standard spec series as Formula E is ...

Yes. And only FIA licensed (I know this GT series is).

FE is not a spec series if we want to be accurate, they develop the motors and gearboxes and some other parts. The list of allowed parts to be developed will increase in the future

Battery development? From a GT team? That sounds more of a marketing PR than anything else to me


BTW, FE owns the rights for electric single seater racing under FIA rules, anything with two seats is out of FE rights
