how is the camber setted up in Formula 1 car ?

Post

hello everyone,
i would like please to know how and from where is the camber of wheels controlled in a formula 1 car ? is it on the upright ? or is the ride height dampers that would squeeze the upright to the inside when lowering the ride height ?

Typically on any car with this suspension arrangement, camber is adjusted by shims. These can be where the control arm attaches to the upright, or to the chassis.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

ahhh shims !! well ok so the shims could be to adjust the length of the upper suspension arm :D ? like for the right height in ferrari they use something like washers to adjust the length of their rod, and in theory we know that the camber will be adjusted if the upper arm length has changed, smaller = negative camber (which is desired) longer goes to positive camber

The Reynard Formula 3000's of the mid 90's onwards used serrated teeth machined into the top of the uprights, and bottom of an arm that the top wishbone, and steering linkup picked up on. Simply clamped together by 2 bolts. Quick and easy adjustment which meant that the toe adjustment wasn't altered as you altered camber. Haven't seen anything better since. Pure genius!!!
