McLaren MCL35M

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Scarbs made an interesting comment… The side pods in the MCL35M are so narrow that without the barge boards, you can see the rear brake ducts!

That is awesome packaging around the radiators!

the FIA should have an open session for tech journalists like Scarbs to study all the cars in the paddock at Abu Dhabi given how little is likely to carry over to the new gen. Will be a goldmine of tricks!

All the teams will then have 'staff' tech journos. And good cameras

I'm sure that level of "espionage in plain sight" has happened a while ago. I specifically meant for journalists, so that you and I can learn about the various tricks and design elements employed, at close hand. Esp. since not much will be relevant for next year's car so there is probably not much to hide.

A cheap update would be a bonnet with smaller outlets because with this bonnet they drive at 25 C?

It's important to note that only the front of the sidepod is on the car. The whole sidepod would be wider

New cars faster than expected
"Pat Symonds expects them to be only 0.5s slower at the start of next year and equal by the end of the season."

https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... s-gedacht/

These F1 teams always amaze me, from these cars are going to be 4-5 seconds slower too 0.5s within the span of a year. The development and loopholes must be immense, I do believe 0.5s may be a collection of loopholes extorted by each team that the FIA has run through CFD, but would still be very impressive if all the teams are within a 1s of this years lap time

It’s not loop holes, it’s just continuous development and refinement.

Probably underestimated how much downforce you can generate from the floor.

Interesting to see how the MCL35 goes this weekend.

Laptime will come differently for next year's cars I expect. Destabilizations may cause a loss of efficiency for the venturi tunnels.

Perhaps the bumpier tracks like Monaco will be quite a bit slower?
