"Reliability" changes still allowed ??

Yep but he said more efficient. It used to be that these changes would get looked at by the PU Manufactures for aproval AFTER the FIA approved them. Not sure if it still happens that way.

Alpine got approval for thier Revised water pump but that's kind of a no brainer when it comes to a "reliability" fix. No way a water pump can give you more power.
A lighter, more efficient impeller for the water pump impeller gives less drag on the engine which translates to more power at the wheels. I'm not talking big difference but could they find 0-1hp between a heavy, inefficient impeller, and a light weight, efficient flow design? Sure.

Virtually every reliability tweak has performance consequences. What I think is each manufacturer is scratching the other's back in order to receive favors when it's their turn to ask for something.
They just revised the way it was attatched to the block cause it came loose.

A majority of the other teams have to agree to allow the reliability update tho, so it wouldn’t be easy to get performance improvements past them.
Anything that makes your PU more reliable means you can run it harder for longer, therefore any reliability upgrade has the potential to increase performance as well.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Harder or longer, I would say, unlikely to be both (unless they have a real issue).

Is that a take on the Mercedes “mini pod” side or just the light reflection catching me out?

Looks so much better than the crude mess we had gotten used to 😂

Do I spy a sidepod change looking at the two pictures (behind the brake)?

The angle of the photograph on the new brakes is taken from much further outboard. Sidepods look identical to me other than the angle

I thought that too, radiator looks a little more flat, but perspective is a hell of a thing lol

Notice the sidepods. The body seems to taper in more. Looks a lot like the Alfa from that angle.

Measurements by Red Bull and Mercedes have shown that the Ferrari engine is currently four kilowatts (5.4 hp) ahead of the Honda V6 and eight kilowatts (10.8 hp) ahead of the Mercedes.
That could increase. First, Ferrari still has a revision of the hybrid system up its sleeve that can inject more power over longer periods of time. Secondly, some wiggle room has been left in the pre-ignition out of concerns about reliability.

Any news on other updates (besides brakes)? I am expecting this weekend like it's the first of the season..
