Aston Martin AMR23 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Some speculation on design from a bit of snooping
  • Car will use Mercedes's entire rear end components allocation, so Gearbox and Suspension
  • There Is a some possibility of a L-Shaped Sidepods(Higher expectation for Alpine to have this too). Apparently if designed right, you get the low drag benefits of the Red Bull, the Aero advantage of the Ferrari and the Mercedes combined. (This is also the small loop hole everyone talking about, where the sidepods can be stretched out to make it bit to allow air to be diverted away from the rear wheels, but the central tunnel will let the air flow freely to the rear diffuser like the Alpine, in a more extreme way
Hi guys, my first post here.

With regards to your second point didn't Mclaren attempt this design on the MP4-26 to a certain degree?

AM are one of the few teams actually showing their real 23’ car not just a livery launch which is a relief.
It will all change before the first GP anyway.

After what Merc pulled last year

The side pod is mostly the same as 2022 but with a deeper indent into the side of the chassis it looks like. So it's basically a Zero pod at the back and a RedBull inlet at the front.

Im quite sure thats the AMR 22, the squarish outboard surface (We know from Alonso seat fit video that its pointy outboard) of the Sidepod gives it away, its identical to the B spec. Also i would not expect a paintjob and logos to be there at this stage.

I managed to get a screenshot from Lance's seat fit today. looks like Scarbs was spot on with his observation, the lower lip extending out like RB:

Direct image link because the tweet thumbnail cuts off the important part of the image.

RB style in the way it has the extended lower lip, but ultimately confirms it's going to be like Blackout had shown previously:

Good sketch except for the part where the towel is mistaken for a scoop on the upper edge of the radiator inlet.

It's very clear that inlet is from the Red Bull though. Interesting.

Highly unlikely.. -3 days less of testing, budget cap and also the knowledge of how it worked out for Merc last year

They could be doing seat fitting in early model or even last years chassis?

Considering the seat is fitted to the chassis and they change every year, there's not much point seat fitting to last year's is there
