Well since you suggested that bring slowest on the straights was aero related, I suspect it is obvious already you were *hurling* yourself at conclusions

🤣🤣🤣
McLaren and in 3 practice the slowest on the straights.
Not bad from the number two driver in the car with the poor aero

And clearly not the slowest car on the straights !

On this occasion you're UnLucky 😁
The aerodynamics are bad, it's a brick.

About Q3, I was wrong.

A brick it may well be, but I'd guess that Williams, Alpha, Hass and Alfa wouldn't mind being as bricky.

Are these teams a benchmark for McLaren? I thought McLaren wanted to get back to the top.

Clearly not a benchmark for the team but it's important to put things into perspective and not overreact to a below par car being developed (admittedly so from the team). Ultimately Oscar was only half a second down on the fastest AM today which is being heralded as the best thing since sliced bread.

The car certainly looks sluggish on the straights. The optimist in me would say that they're running higher downforce which would help preserve the tyres tomorrow. The pessimist in me says that they may struggle to overtake and defend in direct fights. What do we all think?

Think I saw this posted already, but just in case: https://www.motorsportweek.com/2023/03/ ... d-already/
But as Norris suggests that the first engine can’t be used again in the future, it is likely that a penalty will be incurred on his side of the garage at some point during the 2023 season.

“I took a whole new engine because the other one is finished already,” Norris said after Friday practice.
I had hoped the ICE would be OK, but sadly not.

I'm really unsure of the points you keep trying to make.

The car isn't where it should be, it's basic and underdeveloped compared to all the others. Yet, it's still generally faster than almost half tge field and very similar to the Alpine.

It's not doom and gloom.

Man, with that top speed they aren't overtaking anyone. Should be hard for Lando to move forward.

But also Oscar gonna have trouble defending.

Clearly wrong about both parts, it's a top 10 car and would have been in the last race too.

But it will get faster, which I'm looking forward too.

Look at where ALO is on those lists. I don't think he's going to have much trouble attacking or defending tomorrow. That list is not all that

I am writing this message for all those who whine that McLaren has the slowest car on the straights and that everyone will overtake it: in 2011, RB had the slowest car on the straights, which did not interfere with setting the first times and making a solid lead on the first lap . And in the course of the race, Seb usually came off well ahead. Do not look at the maximum speed in isolation from the grip in the corners at the entrance and exit.

I’m sure.
Tipically mistake from a driver who is frustrated and try to bring everything out from the car. Never mind. 15th or 20th it doesnt matter.
What???
Surely that applies to 19 out of the 20 drivers then?
Just a fan's point of view

On the bright side, Lando will have several new softs, Mclaren should leverage that in strategy, a soft - med - soft

Interestingly the characteristic of the tyres this year suggest a major delta rift in stint longevity and pace between new and used. See Gasly vs Lando last stint in Bahrain* the drivers are quite gentle on outlaps or even the first 2-3 laps

Looks like Lando is feeling the pressure from Oscar already! 😉

Oscars precision driving is truly impressive!
The impossible often has a kind of integrity which the merely improbable lacks.
