B Sport - F1 2025 McLaren’s Tyre Management Advantage (Part 2)

Take this video with a great of salt, but if this is anywhere close to how McLaren is getting their temperatures in a relative window, it is both exceptionally clever and very innovative design. Even if the McLaren does get affected the TD, they are still extremely confident that no other team will be able to copy this concept.

We’ll just have to wait and see what James Allison came up with for imola.
FIA Article 11.5.2 (Cooling Systems) prohibits active thermal systems and mandates that heat exchange must be passive, fixed, and non-deployable.

This might be considered passive

FIA President is considering the removal of the cost cap. Don’t know if they could potentially remove it this year.

I don’t like what that would do for the sport entirely, but I know Mercedes and Ferrari would be extremely pleased to hear that.

James Allison on the upgrades coming up

There's some that will be more obvious to the outside world in the next handful of races. And with a bit of luck, they'll improve our fortunes.

The main thing we'll be focusing on is trying to get that race pace under control, trying to make sure that we deliver on the promise of our Saturday's on the Sunday. And that's all about, or the majority of it will be about controlling the temperature of those tyres.

Sounds like he and his team figured out what McLaren does with the brakes. This tone implies confidence.

If anyone was going to have some type of knowledge of how that Mclaren manages it's tyre's effectively, it would be James.

Probably, it's maybe why Toto said in Miami he doesn't expect the McLaren trick to be illegal cause it came from a management he trusts to be fair. Surprising leap of faith in F1 terms..

I love James, but it is a tough ask. Unless they somehow caught wind of it by pre-season testing..I don’t think they can replicate the Macca’s current cooling solution. I’d love for James and the team to prove me wrong though!

Why couldn't they? News travels fast in F1. If it made it to the forum, the teams knew months ago. Employees change teams. Nothing is a secret forever.

Toto Wolff's siding with Mclaren on the subject tells me they intended to bring the same concept. Same story with the flexi-wings...
Maybe! You could be right. We’ll know in the next couple of races.

Come to think about it... Noticed how Mercedes hasn't said a single word or complained at all for what Mclaren developed?

I wouldn`t say "hasn`t said a single word"

Toto Wolff has said.
Wolff, however, can see nothing that indicates impropriety on McLaren's part, underlying the "integrity" within the rival F1 team.

"I think that the team around Zak [Brown], Andrea [Stella], Rob Marshall... these are good people with integrity," the Mercedes team principal told media including RacingNews365.

"If in the past, [we] often say: 'Well, let's look at whether there's something borderline', but I have no doubt that these guys [McLaren] stay within the rules.

"It's just really good development [with] that car. They've understood how to manage the tyre much better than everybody else and, in my opinion, it's totally legit."
And
"Also, from a team management point of view, we should never... when somebody is doing a better job than you, we should not look at that and say: 'They're cheating', because that's not the right attitude anyway,"

I also said “or complained at all” kinda makes you become suspicious that Mercedes are this supportive, buddy-buddying, about McLaren’s advantage and George’s pessimism about the McLaren’s has shifted “slightly” recently.

I don’t know the details, my brain is just a small, minuscule, pieces of thoughts.

But something is telling me Mercedes has been also developing this technology which I wouldn’t be shocked they started right after pre-season testing or the first 2 races.

I have been thinking about it too. Check this out: https://x.com/reel_sonodas/status/19211 ... 04193?s=46
