In the record run the Nio seems to be on full slicks though, which is a big advantage.

@Andres

Yeah, it probably does. I just thought it had some merit in here since there was a lot of discussion surrounding if it was technically possible to create a road 'hyper-car' that could be faster than an F1 car, and I think this car goes a long way in showing how such a [electric] car could be realized without the constraints that a normal ICE car has with piping, cooling etc.

I mean just look at that underbody and all those air channels.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

So do you think the Aston Martin Redbull will beat this Chinese car

If power-to-weight and downforce-to-weight ratios still mean anything, Valkyrie isn't going to have any issues. That electric thing is a pig... as electric cars tend to be.

And a little while longer. Unless one of the more esoteric battery developments out there bear fruit in the car type application. Of course you could, if you wanted to do a record run, put in less battery weight since you don't need 200km of range.

It'll be interesting to see how they integrate the electric portion of this project. The AMG one is a copy of the F1 format plus front wheel motors, but this will almost certainly remain rear drive to keep the aero design under the nose. P1-style?

Whilst batteries are heavy, they have the benefit of being able to be packaged low down in the car. This at least helps handling etc. An ICE is always going to be a big lump in one location, batteries can be placed around the car if necessary to optimise weight distribution.

Electric makes sense for low mileage cars like this. Let's face it, no one is every going to use one of these hypercars as a long range touring car anyway, so being limited to e.g. 100 miles is all they need. It lets them get out and show off to their friends before putting it back in the garage.

Valkyrie was on display in Monaco. A lot of blog focus has been on the apperance of some headlights but what stood out to me was open fenders and covered wheels. Looks like production surfaces and part lines are showing up. Original design intent is being kept alive so far.

Love those covered wheels - reminds me of some vintage LMP Porsche details.

Might this project partly explain RB's minimalist development path in F1 this season?

The wheel vent is interesting, how it vents above and below the door. The shape mimics the taillights & engine vents on their other cars. The wheel covers look sealed--I'm not seeing any gap at the rim. Brake heat vented inboard?

They've significantly opened up the ventilation at the rear as well.
And moved the exhaust exit further back.
Also seems to have sprouted a roof scoop.

Three flatscreens in the cockpit. I presume side & rearview camera displays.

It's changed a bit in detail from the "bland" concept car originally showed to the press, unsurprisingly

It's interesting comparing those two shots. They added diffuser volume, so I guess they know their gearbox better; also looks like the wing is better placed to help diffuser extraction without that trailing edge in the way
