McLaren MCL32 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not 100% sure if they were raced in Baku, but they did trial the floor with slots:

are the slots purely to pull more air into the diffuser area and away from the rear wheels?
This is what they do as far as I understand it:

To keep the maximum effectiveness of the diffuser they keep the tire squirt managed away at the edge of the diffuser. The slots basically feed air from above the floor to below the floor (diffuser) so I imagine them reducing the effectiveness in some way. It's a tradeof.

So... Does downforce increase when driving over sparks?

Has anyone seen any better pictures of the area in front of the rear wheel? This is the best I've seen. I wonder what's happening there. Maybe just sensors. I think it was only there during FP1 on Fernando's car.

Is there a chassis update they're bringing to Hungary?

Štef Vandoorne usualy says something in his column about that but nothing this time.

A pretty animation of the vortices generated by the front wing Via Scarbs's twitter:
