Mercedes W09 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

My eyes hurt from the appearance of the halo and also that Italian newspaper is surprisingly detailed with their rendering down to the dimensions!

Well from the side view it doesn't look so bad. Following the downward angle of the side pods helps that. Now all that's left is working on a carbon fibre composite that is transparent πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It is drawn by Mr. Piola, who loves these sorts of dimmensional details.

I'm interested to see whether the nose cape is brought forward. If it isn't that might suggest it was an in-season fix. Having said that, it was developed during the season so maybe it will evolve further on to the new car. Also, will Mercedes persist with their multitude of VGs on the barge boards and turning vanes?

The Mercedes has the scope for the biggest change, I feel. They may end up with a new aero philosophy if they have sorted their rake/length conundrum.

The said rake wills stay the same. We have to remember the car was strong on like 80% of the tracks. Only issues we had were rear tyre related, which was sorta solved just at season's end.

Agreed. I think they will stick with their current philosophy. I think they got mostly affected because of their trick suspension that was deemed illegal at the beginning of the season which resulted in them scrambling and gave Ferrari an edge. I think once they can figure that out it will be back to normal as usual. With the Merc being crazy fast everywhere. *sigh*

Anyone already tried to figure out the wheelbase length based on this pic?

If it is in fact the W09 on the picture, which I highly doubt, as I don't think they are ready for final assembly yet

Eheh, I know, but I really like when the more savvy members do detailed analysis based on very little information.
