This was expected. In comments, scarbs mentions that it would be better for Ferrari and Haas to have high front arms for aerodynamic reasons, however I'm not sure he understands the flow structures at work, very different from all other concepts.

surely the choice mut be coupled with barge borads and sidepods
you need a specific cfd comparison to know the effect, it s one of those situation in wich deviation of few degrees of the direction of the flux affects everythin, deciding whethere there s a bigger air quantity of air in a specific region

It's not just about quantity of air, it's about the "quality" - the energy of the air. After it passes under the front wing (the air that "passes trough" suspension arms) it loses a lot of its energy. This is why, at least it's my view, Ferrari are using upper, unaffected layers of air for both radiator cooling and diffuser efficiency. You can find it summarized here:

My bad with quantity of air i implied momentum quantity, of course if you make more already fast air enter into a specific section the momentum raises

However the nose side dviators direct the flux downward in theninner part of the radiatior
The outer part is still heavily affected by tyres and suspensions that s why raising the suspension flux could create stresmilines that tough cleaning the air compared to lower suspensions enclosing and limiting the brake aspiration turbulence bettter can still orient flux up the bargeboards making them less effective , that s probably why merc had the highest bargeboards

It seems you want to clean the air bear thw wheels but it will never deserve radiator treatment or even sidepod treatment, you clean it to not detach it too much in lateral movement and affect the rest, still there s clearly a tunnel that moves around the car and different zones that dont have to interact at all

According to sauber's Joerg Zander, alongside the engine Ferrari has also given them gearbox and rear suspension.
Hope to see more similarities between 2018 Ferrari and the C-37 rather than with the Haas... they really did an outstanding job!

Still, I wonder about basing any assumptions re Ferrari wheelbase on the Sauber, who make their own front suspension; seems like the Haas is the better comparison (was exactly the same length as the Ferrari last year - understandably, given they were using the exact same suspension) and to my eye it actually looks a little bit shorter than last year.

Let's see, I guess; I imagine no official wheelbase figures will be released just yet anyway.

Edit: Might as well add this here (from the Haas thread) as I think it could be indicative of the Ferrari:

SO this is just a bit of fun, and by no means do I think it's 100% accurate (various caveats about photo angles, the method I've used , etc.) but for my own interests, I thought this might give a representation of whether we're looking shorter/longer/the same:

I don't think that number can possibly be right - it's not 10cm shorter than last year's shortest car (or is it? :P ) - but it might at least suggest that it's likely to be less than the 3594mm they (and Ferrari) ran last year.
