Paint/wrap weight is important but I'm skeptical an F1 paint job weighs up to 25 kg or 55 lbs! This is several gallons of paint! Any source or other indication the paint weights this much?

There's always talk of teams saving weight when switching paintjobs, but I'd eat my own trousers if an F1 paintjob weighs 25Kg. Doing a quick research I found out that a regular car paintjob weighs about 4Kg. So considering that weight saving is much more important in F1 than in road cars, if a paint job was more than 4Kg I'd be surprised. When even your drivers need to lose weight to reach the minimum weight rules, if you had to waste 25Kg to make the car pretty, you'd be way better off just leaving the car on naked CF.

This is largely achieved by making each layer thinner, yet still making it work effectively – for example, the anthracite grey base coat is only 34 microns thick (0.03mm), and the double coat of laquer is just 56 microns thick."

Considering that there are 8 square meters, and the added thickness combines to 90 microns (34 from the base coat and 56 from the laquer), you get an end result of 0,72 liters of dried paint. If that got even close to 25Kg they could just use paint for ballast.

the paint on your average road car is roughly 100 μm /0.1mm thick

The paintable surface on an F1 car is what? maybe 10 m²

dried paint is >1g/cm³ (a quick search gave me 1.18 g/cm³ in a brillux paint spec sheet)

so 25 kg of paint would be 21186 cm³

This would be 21 liters (packs of milk) of dried paint ... on an F1 car.

The paint on the car would be 2mm thick (x20 compared to road car)

edit: i see diogo posted some good info whilst i was typing this ... in the video at 0:28 he mentions ~2kg of paint

This is not an cooling emergency opening but it does something to doo with Mercedes PU. All the mercedes powered cars have a slot in aproximatly this position, had it there allso last year (maybe even longer). I didn't find any good pics like this of the FW41, but here is Force India, look in the tip of the pink triangle on the engine cower below W:

It seems like the surface flow tends to go from the ridge to both sides when approaching the trailing edge. Maybe it's because the higher you raise the trailing edge, the lower Cp you have on the surface and thus will induce the air to the low Cp area. As a result you need to add the fins to prevent air seperating from the edge and form unpredictable vortices.
