Renault Sport F1 R.S. 18

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

First shot of the new all-CF gearbox:

The surface finish of the gearbox does not look as smooth as body panels (and maybe it does not have to be as smooth). Do they laminate carbon onto a plug (which creates a smooth inside), or inside a mold (which should create a smooth outside)?

Probably convergent evolution more or less. Reminds me more of Toro Rosso's rear wing endplates.

When they do an adjustment to the front wing on a pit stop, do they have some sort of programmed screw driver to turn a screw X number of turns? Three seconds for an adjustment just seems iffy.

I believe STR pioneered the bleed slots being opened on the leading edge of the end plate.

Yes STR pionneered that, but Mclaren 'invented' what the last pic shows AFAIR viewtopic.php?p=760106#p760106

Minardi did large bleed slots in the endplates first. As they became STR it obviously developed from there on.

Why is Renault running rather 'conventional' sidepod deflectors? Most of the teams copied Ferrari's last year's deflectors in some shape or form
