Just a note on red bull they can't test because they don't have a mule car to use. Renault isn't providing them with any engines to run last years car with. But next year they can run this years car with a Honda engine in it.

I don't know what Ferrari's reason is but I imagine they don't want to be distracted while preparing next years car.
RedBull could have ran a Toro Rosso, so that doesn’t make sense.
This would be useless because the TR is still different on aero compared to RB, hence false data
If they are interested in real life aero data it’s only the difference from the normal tire, the car itself doesn’t really matter as long as they know the base. Plus, these tires come on cars that are so radical different then this period that any data is kinda useless. The computer models are probably way more interesting

so we can agree that is was useless to test these tyres with 2018/2019 cars because the 2021 cars will be completly different?

Surely if some teams chose to participate they felt there was some value. Another way of looking at it is they were able to develop a run plan that improved the value proposition such that it was worthwhile.

Also, what data do the teams have to share? All of it regardless of direct relevance to the tire performance? Doubtful.

I somehow missed this report about cancelling the ban on tire blankets when initially writing in this topic.
Mario Isola wrote:“So in 2021 we keep the blankets, in order to have a reference, and then step-by-step we will go in that direction of not having them.
So I guess they they still plan to remove it eventually. Though "step-by-step" seems ominous. So what? They plan to drag it out several years?
And what would be a "step"? Using 75% then 50% surface coverage? :)

What a joke, if you participate in this sort of testing all data and pics should be made available, or you don't get to participate!

Why hide last years car? Were they testing actual 21 parts?

Ferrari always over does it with hiding it’s car, it will be an interesting team to watch during the open garage test. Will they be allowed to work behind umbrellas? It’s the kind of silly thing I expect them to do.
