According to Fabrega the problem was in the engine mappings: Fernando did Pouhon flat out that lap and the engine run out of hybrid boost.
Seems strange. Does that mean that the issue was never picked up during practice, or Q1? If so, why?

Didn't run out. It just didn't deploy automatically. Pouhon was taken flat out and the engine map expected a throttle lift. There was no lift so it didn't know where it was on the track and didn't deploy.

Hahahahaha. Honda needs a separate software tester whose job is "Everybody else tests the software for the engine. You test this for Fernando Alonso"

New lesson for Alonso: if you feel no deployment release throttle and then push it again

Seems strange that their deployment strategy is not based or at least assisted with GPS data as well as major throttle position.

Is diff gps permitted by regulations?

I find it a weird conclusion, as Fernando did the same in Q1 (taking Pouhon flat out) and the issue didn't occur then..

Andrew Benson (I know some might groan) has a bit more detail it seems. Software didn't pick up that Alonso had already gone through the corner so didn't deploy, so Alonso is too fast for the car and software it seems - https://twitter.com/andrewbensonf1/stat ... 0293412864

The shocking conclusion is, Honda still has no full deployment for a whole lap, the have to chose where to have deployment.

It's forbidden by the rules for safety reasons.

I don't think that ANY team has full deployment for the whole lap, the battiers allows for 33.3 seconds of hybrid boost at max power, and even with some amount of energy recovered while braking by the MGU-K and some on the straights by the MGU-H (I actually doubt it's much considering that it's in the highest possible power output mode) Spa has very long sections at full throttle.

Is Hasegawa dumbing things down again? Because it would seem very weird if Honda only uses throttle input to determine where they are on track.

This! Mostly throttle input.. there must be a better way to do this! Even a simple addition of a innertial navigations system would have helped i think.
