They wouldn't be able to stop me from taking a spanner to it and tearing it apart just to put it back together. I'm grateful for the pictures but sad I can't see in more detail. That they're showing the power unit like this, I imagine it's this engine's last time out.

Honest question, had the engine in the car for this weekend been in the car at the beginning of the season, would there have been more points on the board?
Compare the performance now to the beginning of the season and it would be very different now had they been using this setup since the start. They would still be using Honda next year had that been the case for sure.

Sadly Honda will get to the front right as they change the engine formula again.
But hopefully it will be similar enough that most of everything learned will transfer over.

I really hope to see a spec 4.0 engine tomorrow, but chances are low it seems...
I wouldn't allow McLaren to see the next (Wazari) spec engine - this will feed up the competition with ideas. The fact that they exposed the current design in full means that we should expect the major engine upgrade next year. Forza TRH!

Yeah, would be like Renault looking under the hood of Fred Flintsone's car.

I wish other manufacturers thought like you. Unfortunately they're smart enough to know that just because an engine is not performing optimally, in no way it means that there aren't some very clever engineering ideas in there that they could use.

I might have missed that claim... link?
It is pretty well known. There is a rule however that forbids K torque fill under a certain speed (100 kph I think?).
Correct.
Only during "race start ". Otherwise you can use the K any time you like including if you start the race from the pit lane.

Yeah, I think there is a formula dictating torque up to a certain RPM, too.
That'd be the fuel flow formula.

Q = 0.009 * RPM + 5.5 <10,500rpm.

Or maybe you mean the maximum torque specified for the K at 200Nm?

Yes but they are rarely under 100kph any other time. And traction would be a problem if they were anyway.

I was commenting on the rule not the practice. I suspect that the reason they restrict its use is because traction is a problem.

I believe the reason for restricting it at the start is so that they cannot use the MGUK to be used to help off the line actually. Progressive use of the K off the line would be far more predictable than ICE.

And would ease traction problems.
