This is an electric generator. If the rotating magnetic field imparts force on the passing magnet then power must be supplied to rotate the magnetic field.

This system does not clearly say if it's kers, a generator, a perpetual motion device, etc. What is this system claiming to do? If a proponent can clearly state that then I think clarity will soon follow.

I don't get this. Yes, coils can be saturated with current or EMF induced into them, but can't see how they'd be charged and deliver constant energy. Unless it is about some secondary usage of the magnetic field of the constant magnet to generate electric energy.

The way the 2014 F1 regulations are written, the energy input/output at the motor/generator is based on electrical current/voltage measurements, and is limited to 2MJ in any one lap.

There is also this: "5.2.9 With the exception of a single ERS, the total amount of recoverable energy stored on the car
must not exceed 300kJ. Any which may be recovered at a rate greater than 2kW must not
exceed 20kJ." One might interpret this to mean that power resulting from the "latent magnetic" effect described in the link would be practically limited to 2kW.

Modern solid state power electronics and PM motors are quite efficient. The combined efficiency of a controller and PM motor would probably be around 95% or better. So the only place to improve the F1 electric kers during motoring is within that 5% efficiency loss. With a 120kW limit, the best one could possibly gain (at 100% efficiency) is just 6kW.

Hi Dragonfly, The energy from the coils is a secondary function, to be used as kers is currently used.

Does anyone have any information on the possible solar powered options for f1, I haven't seen or heard of any

silly idea, there's not enough power to be of any consequence. Plus, its a lot of electronics. very complex and very, very expensive. Those huge solar cars that race across australia, covered on every inch with PV cells make like... 1 hairdryer worth of power on a good day.

Sorry I thought Richard from leeds was suggesting there was a PV example

One of the articles in the OP describing this system identified a potential use as:

Put one between some solar panels & the batteries and you have just doubled the output of the panels

That means PV-Battery results in less power than PV-Motor-Generator-Battery

So it claims converting electricity to rpm then back to electricity is more efficient than a single cable. Perfect example of how the system is nonsense.

I asked this question of the company CEO but as it is still being developed all he could say was that it will be lighter than conventional kers systems, adding that as there's no need for all the batteries current systems use it will also take up less space
