A seperate exhaust heat energy recovery system, either natural aspirated or turbo, like the Porsche 919 has would be nice and sound cool.

But i don't think F1 should be 4wd.

150 kW to the front is not much. How about 100 kW drive and 200 kW recovery?

What about full electric mode when hitting the pit limiter? So it means when cars pit, they only have electric drive in the pitlane.

It is being done in research at least. Can't find it now, but it was written about in RET a while ago.
Use exhaust gases to power a turbine for electrical generation only.

I think the primary "issue" to solve is the RPM of the ICE, they should raise to at least 15.000 RPM, so maybe just change the fuel flow formula to hit max fuel flow at 13.500 RPM?

Also a bigger battery pack (6-8 MJ?) and a more powerful MGU-K (180-240 kW?).

I think this will be pretty much "cheap", "loud" and "fast".

When they go 0.8l inline 3 cilinders and lower fuel flow to 70kg/hr, boost pressure and rpm has to increase i suspect.

If they go V4 a Mercedes split turbo would be more logical for teams i think.

Surely they should be aiming in excess of the current lmp1 8mj rules?

Would expect an increase in electric power and why not get up to 1,200 to 1,500 bhp?

What would be the absolute best for f1 would be opening up the technical regs and using BOP to keep a somewhat level field a la wec

I wonder what would be more exiting to see. The current system, were we have 120kw electric power available for almost a full lap. Or like 200-300Kw but only for some short bursts.

AWDKERS with the current engines and 8MJ storage..

Like Pat Symonds said a few years ago, if you want to improve the racing, give the cars more power than the chassis can handle.

1800hp awd F1 cars would be epic!

current 7/8 speed transmission technology enables the supercharger (with software-modulated intake throttling) to be driven mechanically
(the V16 BRM could have done with this, its final version had 'vortex-throttled' supercharger, good for 800 hp @13000 rpm)
or we could seperate turbocharging from the recovery turbine, if turbocharging is sufficiently responsive at the 4+ bar needed for 2x equivalence ratio

unlimited energy recovery rate and storage is viable, but only if done by primarily mechanical systems
flywheel ES connected via epicyclic gearing continuously variable by management of differential input rpm (eg Prius)
no need for friction braking (if awd/recovery)

this would also stop the fraud that is qualifying
stuffing the batteries, and throwing them away after 15 min use

or should we go pseudo all-electric ?
a petrol-electric free-piston (no crankshaft, no gears) ICE outputting via linear electric generators to battery and awd motorgenerators
braking recovery power would naturally be limited by size, weight, and cooling issues to propulsion power ie about 1.2g's worth
so we'd need the traditional friction braking (or some huge and controversially moveable airbrake functionality)

I think the future is electric driving and the Tesla with supercharger is already a very practical solution.

So until formula e is worthy replacement of f1 we need some form of ICE to bridge time. I don't think ICE wil advance that much anymore.

The day that F1 goes full electric like Formula E, is the day that Tesla would probably enter F1 tbh. They surely have the fund to do so.

You do realise that the ES is one of the subsystems of the power unit of which only a certain number can be used in a season? ie 5 ES for 2016.

Apart from that, there's a post-qualifying parc fermé as well.
