back to motorsport. there is far less phyiscal importance on a driver.
I thought this line of thinking had been debunked. Each sport has unique physical demands; excelling in these unique areas aids athletes. Drivers no exception. Apples to oranges to compare fitness across sporting categories, but top series drivers have physical demands and routines no different from any other professional league.
Therein gender/bio discrepancies will remain. General population obsesses over sports, stupidly. Those athletes only represent some tiny fraction of the population. They are the outliers in certain physical parameters which allowed them to rise through the ranks of feeder series. 99.999% of men can't compete in professional men's sports, either. Take a similar figure to the general population. Nearly all people can't compete in sports, so if anything it's what might be called ablist.
Some glass ceiling effects are to blame. I think sports generally is probably a lot of people being dicks to each other constantly. That climate combined with specific bigotries around sex and gender would present harsh circumstances and toxic environments.
But physical limits also exist. Fewer 6.5' tall women to pool from to allow more equal representation amongst NBA centers, for example.

Can't find the video I have of Janet Guthrie being inducted into the hall of fame but she said something to the effect of never having seen where what a driver has between their legs making a difference.
Not being stateside, I looked her up on wikipedia and read this:
Her top practice lap in Foyt's car would have been adequate to qualify for the field. Largely because of her gender, she was unable to obtain funding through corporate sponsorship, and was forced into retirement.

Pippa Mann's point exactly.

If this series is handled right it could actually help break that, because it does actually provide a sort of destination, somewhere you can tell your sponsor you have a legit chance of ending up at a competitive level and with broadcast time.
If they --- it up, W Series will literally become the glass ceiling itself though.

Well done to Chadwick hope she does well in the future.
I feel w series needs better tracks to race at several where less than epics and perhaps find a tyre that doesn't last the whole race to force some management or pit stops

Formula 1: W Series to be undercard at two races in 2020 -

That's huge news for the series

it is huge isn't it, hopefully it'll improve the coverage. But for me it's not going to be an F1 feeder series, there are no girls anywhere remotely near F1 standard, it should just stand on its own merits as a series for women to enjoy racing each other in their own championship. Putting it right next to F1 is just going to set them all up for a fail, being judged against the boys.
Girls aren't as good at spatial skills, it's been known scientifically for a long time, and at best it's heavily socialised so it'll take long time for WSeries and general progressive attitudes to make a difference. So hopefully the media will present it as a good thing on its own and not go on and on about how it'd be great IF ONLY the girls were such awesome drivers as the boys!
There's an interesting study described in
https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/ ... -reasoning
where they basically found the girls were worse at spatial tasks UNTIL a social element was added:
they rewrote a question so it was about a person rather than an object. In other cases, they noted in the instructions that this was a type of social intelligence test
Then they were instantly as good, which suggests we can do it perfectly well but have been taught we shouldn't! Socialisation can be huge of course. So WSeries is fantastic for that, but not as a feeder series to F1

Jamie had a great weekend in Asian F3 and that gave her 4th in the championship and 10 superlicence points. So if she can win W Series again that would give her enough points to do FP1

W Series Belgium huge crash whith six cars this afternoon: Beitske Visser & Ayla Agren in hospital
Here you can see Beitske Visser coming out of her car and how she stumbles to the ground. Her car was hit several times and very hard by the last one.
W Series drivers Ayla Agren and Beitske Visser have been taken to hospital after a multi-car crash at the Belgian Grand Prix meeting.
A spokesperson for the female-only series said the drivers were undergoing "further checks" after the incident.
The four other drivers involved - Abbie Eaton, Marta Garcia, Sarah Moore and Fabienne Wohlwend - were "undergoing medical assessment", W Series said.
The W Series race is supporting Formula 1's Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
Spa-Francorchamps' Eau Rouge corner is one of the most notorious corners at a track regarded as among the sport's most demanding.
The incident comes two years after Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert was killed in an accident at the final part of the Eau Rouge swerves, known as Raidillon.
The W Series crash happened slightly earlier on the track, as the cars were climbing the hill through the middle right-handed part of the swerves, before the crest of the hill at the Raidillon left-hander.
The incident was triggered when first Moore and then Eaton lost control through the right-hander and spun into the barriers.
Dutchwoman Visser, Swedish-Norwegian Agren and Spaniard Garcia then spun and collected them, launching Eaton and Visser into the air.
Visser's car bounced on top of the tyre barrier before landing back on the track.
Wohlwend's car ended up upside down after the Liechtenstein racer ran wide and hit Visser's car.
The incident is likely to lead to further questions about safety at the high-speed swerves, which have been the scene of a series of dangerous accidents.

That was a bad one, how can four drivers spin separately in the same spot, usually these things happen due to oil or something on the track?

rain came literally as they started their flying laps, meaning prep laps were done on slicks. seeing as this might have been the only dry and therefore fastest lap, they went all in. no1 expected the track to get that went in a that amount of time, so the first six just slid off

If several drivers spin at one location then it's an environmental factor such as oil on the track.
That was a very nasty accident and if it had been F1, the feeds would have been full of how terrible it was - hobbling drivers etc. But it's a junior series and "only" women drivers, so like, yeah whatever.
Motor racing needs a damn good kicking sometimes.

It's a nightmare section to have a wet track on slicks.
