I have to say I'm somewhat shocked at the backward steps they've made.

It's not that Ferrari have gone backwards, they have developed their car on a consistant basis. Evidently it has not been enough, and Mclaren have now surpassed them.
What has effected them the most in the constructors championship IMO, has been Kimi's DNF in Spain, and 8th place in Monaco. Even with development below* that of Mclarens, with consistent podiums from both drivers Ferrari would be a lot better off.
What should be taken into account should also be the re-organization that Ferrari has gone through during the past 6-7 months. The entire team has to get back into the "rythm" after losing various key figures, M.Schumacher, R.Brawn, and to a certain extent, R.Byrne.
I hope Ferrari gets it back together starting in INDY, theres still a lot of races to go. I'm trusting they wont dissapoint.

I think Dave is right: is the car.
On the other hand, it is through the driver that the car is developed. So, it's the driver.
However, a driver is nothing without a good car. So it's the car.
Of couse, if the driver cannot take advantage of the car, it will not finish first. So, it's the driver.
Thinking about it... it's the car. No. It's the driver. No. It's the car...
Do you know something? Somebody should pay Mr. Schumacher to take the car for a few laps around Maranello and give us a clue.

While I think the Macca has taken big steps as of late, I don't think Ferrari would be in such a bad position if they had a consistent point scorer in Kimi. If Kimi hadn't done so badly in the last few races then I think they wouldn't be so far behind, but Lewis has been sooo consistent that he really looks to be carrying the team to the constructor's title and, of course, himself to the WDC.
Having a on/off pace Kimi is no help to Ferrari, and i am a bit shocked to say this, but if he doesn't turn it around very very soon, I don't think he's earned another year at Ferrari!

And MS influence on Raikkonen? This year, every time Schumi is at the racetrack wearing team overalls, Kimi is unable to drive a consistent weekend... so, part of the secret is not car or driver, but rather
ex-driver.

Back on the topic. Apparently McLaren already has a new improved aero package ready for testing. It's supposed to be a big step forward, even from the great package they already have.
We shall see, they will test it this week in Silvertone.
I kinda hope this isn't true. They are already so bloody fast.

It'll be interesting to see if this new package fits Alonso or Hami better.

At the start of the season in Australia, Ferrari had both qualifying and race performance superior to anyone. McLaren soon got on an equal footing on race pace, and after a few races, now dominate qualifying. Ferrari did show hope in race pace at Indy, but it was too little, too late. And that pace was found only in the second session, which means Ferrari don't have superior race pace on all tire scenarios, as opposed to Mclaren.
And it sure helps to have two competent drivers who have no trouble getting motivated.
