here's a link from a quick google search for "NASA virtual wind tunnel"
http://www.nas.nasa.gov/Software/VWT/

Enjoy!

:( It is just a virtual reality environment only, not a real time virtual windtunnel ;-)

miqi23 wrote:Yes, there are CFD codes which use higher schemes, however they are all in house codes.
Wow, I didn't know F1 teams wrote their own in house codes on top of the commercial ones they use.
To be honest I am not sure which commercial codes use any higher than what we already have. I am happy with what we have and I have never had problems getting good results.
I don't think anyone's debating the level of accuracy or having problems with 2nd order techniques. I'm just limited on computing power and for me, a higher order scheme is a big deal as it allows me to use a coarser grid to arrive at the same solution. I'm not looking for 18th order for the hell of it, I'm looking for higher order to save time. Surely people in industry like to save time even more than us academic folk?
Give NASA a call and see what they have! Trust me mate they should have something that would blow your minds away.
Yeah, I'll call the NASA CFD hotline and ask them what order schemes they have available. Sounds good to me. Thanks for the help.

Erm yeah - I'll have to do that through the home computer, I have filezilla here, but need to sort IPs out - Im not quite sure which one is the right one to use.

I'll see if I can figure it out today.

Some do and some don't I believe.

Ferrari uses Fluent, (and maybe star), while renault uses a modification of the Airbus CFD program... or so I've been told [makes sense, Bob Bell would have come through here about the same time as the guy that was main man on the Airbus code].

That is a lot of work dont you think. It would be fun to do it but it is not a one man job. We would need atleast 3 people to mess around with different things. Some one could volunteer to mesh, some could design the geometries based on the discussions etc.

At this stage initial Aero analysis of different parts can atleast get people working towards what may be a bigger project in the end. As I said, it depends on how many people contribute.
Ah, so it's a "self organizing map" sorta effort. That's OK, I was just trying to get my head around a "project", but in effect, sometimes just going with it might yield more innovative results that very clearly outlined/defined projects.

Hello Everyone, first post here.

I have been watching this website for quite some time, now, but have not posted because of my lack of knowledge in the CAD / CFD / Aerodynamic domain.

However I have been recently able to use CAD / CFD programs, with the help of my school, and I have started working on simulations as well as CAD models.

This website is really great, and I enjoy the power that everyone puts into posting as well as the knowledge behind CFD simulations and everything.

I also wanted to let you know that I will start working soon on a Rear wing simulation in order to familiarise myself with the softwares, and then maybe work on some parts that have not been modeled.

Concerning the Whole Car project, or even the quality part project, please let me know if I can help, as I would be glad to and would love to see a group of people working together towards the same objective.

First of all welcome to the website Ferrarigp and I am glad you like what we are trying to do here. I appreciate your enthusiasm and I hope you will get some thing good out of it in the end!

Good luck with your rear wing simulation. Make sure you share your first simulation with us and see what others have to say about it.

For the time being not much is going on and looks like some people volunteered to work on radical wing designs, just waiting for the out come and see what we could learn.

Welcome! Do you intend to start some rear wing CFD runs? If so, let me know if you need help. I know how frustrating it can be to learn CFD softwares without training!

I agree i think i spent months beating my head against the screen to figure it out.

Hey everyone,

First of all, thanks for the warm welcome.

Indeed I intend to work on rear wing designs, simple designs at first, in order to familiarize myself with CCM and SolidWorks.

So far I have been able to figure most of it out, but I will make sure to ask if indeed I do need help.

Erm, having some problems getting the FTP thing sorted out...

The work computer is hidden behind firewalls I have no control over... while the home machine is on a router, so the IPs seem to be getting screwed up.

Tell me about it mate, it gets worse! I am struggling getting some journal files to work and the whole automation process seems to collapse. I have been pulling my hair out and have never been this furious...

Have you tried to use a Torrent file instead of using FTP?

http://www.bitlord.com

There are many. Just google Torrent Software. You create a file with the software and your buddies can load it using the same software (or Opera, ehem... have I already recommended it? ;)). It does not load your PC that much as with FTP.

You can try an FTP client, also, like Cupertino. Google for it.
