It's optional. It can be located in the ES area or the ICE area, or both. The permitted minimum weight limit for the MGUK and PU as a whole varies based on the decision.

I actually think that with narrower cars, greater attention is being paid to keeping the CoG low at all costs. This wasn't a top priority for the tanks of recent years, but now it's becoming much more important again. What I'm missing is the oil reservoir and the compressor...could Honda have placed the oil reservoir at the rear like Ferrari did in 2014? In general, it looks like a split turbo design with no compressor and no oil reservoir.

Rules state in front of engine and same shaft as the crank

I suppose, to avoid "dieselization" (compression ignition). Why, I don't know, but all the past regs were enforcing spark ignition.

Who are “most people”?

Technological pioneer but they’ve banned turbo technology that has been around 50 years…

When it comes to the battery, is it fair to think that the performance advantage from the previous PU can be carried over?

There seems to be some sort of plenum between the end of the exhaust and the turbo. Perhaps to even out the exhaust pulses before they go to the turbine.

The split turbo concept seems to have carried over, as we can see the turbo air intake at the front the chassis.

The MGU-K mount so far forward is a choice. Curious how that gets connected the transmission? Many decisions seem to be to make the rear of the car as narrow as possible. That may be Newey's influence.

The double air intakes / throttle bodies is another interesting choice. Maybe they want to be able to control each bank of cylinders independantly?

Now I'm wondering if they will be running 2 separate water/air intercoolers, one on either side of the chassis.
