“Number 44 asking for more power” he was asking for something that wasn’t there. Number 99 had to be reminded that more power was there to use (overtake button/mode is available) he was told.
In simple terms, and quoting from race report by what is considered as the number one race report reporter.
“FERRARI had a better weapon than Mercedes here. The SF90’s straight line speed advantage over Mercedes was huge, enough to squeak number 16 pole and thereby by having track position. But, more impressively, to leave him not under threat into turn one even with number 44 in full attack mode, battery loaded, DRS wide open from right under his rear wing through Parabolica, first from number 44 and then from number 99, virtually start to finish”.

What has Giovinazzi to do with this?

Meant to be 77 and not 99.

"full attack mode" doesn't necessarily mean Strat2, even if it came after Lewis' radio which it might have, and the DRS activation line is way after Parabolica, so the whole thing is nonsense even if it had anything to do with the PU hardware and software

“Number 44 asking for more power. He was asking for something that wasn’t there”.
Quoting Mercedes strategy director James Vowels 11/09/2019.
“Number 44 got everything out of the motor in Italy to possibly intercept number 16. We have various adjustments options for our drive unit to achieve maximum performance in the short term, for example an overtake maneuver. Number 44 has tried this as well. But it just was not enough to get past number 16”.

lol but it obviously went like
1. "James, this is Lewis. I need more power man."
2. "Copy Lewis. Strat X, HPP Magic to Intercept. Overtake is available. "
....
3. "It was not enough man."
4. "Copy Lewis, sorry."

see? Temperi omnia est :P

Just a reminder that this is not the thread for race talk. Thanks.

All 6 winning cars and their power units lined up. Cool to see the changes in the PU's. Also emphasises how small these things are.. amazing achievement.

So now a Merc can't even pass a Torro Rosso anymore on the straight, what the hell is wrong with this year's engine!

Engines. 3 of them, not unlimited.

Apperently the highest they could give Lewis was strat mode 5, wonder how far away that is from full pelt.

I wouldn't read too much into it, although I believe Honda is right on top of Mercedes now (and I'm sure STR have less downforce), the Merc PU's never do too well at high altitude circuits and the Honda's seem to excel on them. Always have over the years.

Yeah few things here.

1)Honda engine no 7 for Gasly Car. Engine 3 for Merc
2)Franz Tost confirmed Gasly was running less downforce by choice. You can see in the clip merc and honda neck and neck until just before the line where Gasly starts pulling away slowly yet the Merc is still deploying.
3) Strat 5 I don't believe it is the fastest mode available.

Anyway - Safe to say the Honda has made massive inroads, and is probably there or thereabouts but the Merc Lump is still amazing.

Lewis had a Mercedes car a championship winning machine and very fresh tires and couldn't pass Gasly. In Austria when they lost in high altitude they blamed the temperatures not the pu .

Lewis has used 3 engines for the season, Gasly has used 7. The unit in Gasly's car was fresher and he was using everything it had - he said in the cool down room that he was holding the overtake button the whole way.
