Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha have announced the extension of their contract until the end of 2024

This is good news. If he were not there, it is almost no competition racing. Hope Yamaha & Honda will come back soon.

"Today we had the opportunity to operate on the right humerus of Mr. Marc Marquez,” Dr. Sanchez said in a statement issued by Honda.

“The procedure was completed in approximately three hours.

“Despite the complexity of the procedure, the final outcome was satisfactory.

“Surgery consisted in removing the proximal two screws of the posterior plate previously placed by Dr. Samuel Antuna in December of 2020, followed by a rotational humeral osteotomy.

“Such procedure involves creating a transverse cut of the humeral bone to rotate the humerus along its long axis.

“The amount of rotation performed today was approximately 30 degrees of external rotation.

“The humerus was stabilised in the new position using an anterior plate with multiple screws. Surgery was completed uneventfully.

“We would like to wish Mr. Marquez a swift recovery and a successful return to his professional career."

Catalunya 2022 FP2
slo-mo of #20 at about 28 minutes to go
Turn 3 the tyre loading and tyre behaviour: rear fully loaded and conformity perfect; front tyre surprisingly light.
Hard front soft rear and no lowering device activated (not 100% sure)
EDIT on the motogp data they say he was on medium medium (Run 2) different from the commentators.
Is this one of the keys to Yamahas and Fabios cornering prowess?

30 Degrees rotation for correction!
Does this mean he has twisted it that much from use?
Wouldnt think the second lot of surgeons would make that much mistake.

In a show that they're serious about sorting out their engine issues, Yamaha have hired Luca Marmorini to help design their lump for 2023.
He was most recently behind Aprilia's move to the 90 degree V4 and a huge step in reliability, and was with Ferrari in F1 before that.
A big statement from Iwata.

At least that is what Gazzetta Dello Sport is reporting.

That is strange. Yamaha has very good experience with vee they just insist for Inline layout. I think 90 degree gives more torque but affects bike length ( maybe longer bike, wider space inside vee give better breathing to engine too, maybe high speed stability, more weight at front to prevent wheelie, more weight at rear to prevent stopie, these all can be advantages of longer wheelbase and 90 degree engine ) which Japanese makers didn't like or prefer.
When Yamaha insist so long with inline layout I don't think they will go for 90 degree. They may go with vee layout. I hope they will. In this case ( narrower vee) I think more power has bad affects on bike. I got this conclusion because of Honda's statement when they had more power with the engine previous years.
So building vee engine with better engineering which eliminate bad affects on bike stability honda had or building 90 degree with a very compact design which will alow them to keep shorter wheelbase should be aim ( according to me )

That might have been the swinging factor for Fabio + an out clause on performance in the contract + a few more bucks$

Qualifying at Catalunya 2022

The Suzukis seem to have lost that good chassis performance giving Mir huge frustration but Rins battles on valiantly.
The dangerous Hondas should have stayed at home and saved a lot of pain, particularly for Alex Marquez.
The underpowered Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo was pedalled to the maximum plus a bit into third position with a 1:38.959 @ 347.2 kph, the only Yamaha within cooee. Respect.
So, in Formula Perfect Setup the Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro was on top with a record breaking 1:38.742 @ 351.7 kmh
But Pecco Bagnaia and his Duke was an injector pulse width behind 1:38.773 @ 348.3kph

One of the best Qualifying sessions with congenial camaraderie shown at the end, a great example.
What team changes have there been at Aprilia that could have helped their advances?

Well they had a whole new bike last season that turned out to be a great base for development. And it seema that Espargaro, Savadori and at the end of the season Vinales gave a great feedback to tge team that was able to follow through on it.

Plus since the end of last seazon Apeilia is on its own. Greseini team did great with them (as they are now doing with Ducati) but maybe communication for Aprilia became less complex now that they don't have a middle man between race track and factory
