Seeing as the regulations for 2021 want to use them to reduce wake that would be ironic if true.

Yes I know. They often these days seem to back track on rules and ideas.

If the wheel cover is completely covering the rim you obviously get less turbulence out to the sides. Cooling the brakes then becomes a bit more interesting ofc. Having ducts for both intake and exhaust heat.. I doubt it would be a problem to cool the brakes but it would cause some design chances for sure. Another option is to demand the intake to be on the outside.. where the cover is. exhaust then leaving towards the center line.

That said. They are beating around the bush. Open wheel and intense focus on safety just makes everything seem silly when you also want less turbulence for the following car.
They are trying to make a car that looks a certain way perform in a way it is ill suited for.

Interesting that they're using Sauber not TMG/Aerolab or somewhere not directly involved in the sport.

Reading reactions to it in social medias I get the feeling that I'm the only one who likes how it looks. Just hoping there will still be enough room for the teams to play with.

I love how it looks. I worry that they'll have to make a lot of it spec to ensure the wheel-to-wheel action happens.

No word on how prescriptive the regs are.

I think I like it.
Modern but with a kind of old school feel.

Reminds me of this beauty:
I'd love to see sidepod inlets like that again!

I quite like it, hopefully this means we can do without DRS from 2021 onwards
