Indeed, upon request from several members, I believe somewhere in this thread.
I don't know by heart what is the limit, but if it's counter-intuitive I'm open to changes, perhaps lengthening the period of allowed voting.

5.Thus, if Newey, stubbornly, insists on posting in Caption Competition for whatever reason (let's say he's daydreaming about competing in the Murika Cup, perhaps?) he could be expelled for being extremely British and way too much "Engineer Brain Damage".

Conclusion: perhaps ratings should be separated by forum, or maybe for Technical vs Non Technical (aka Fan Boy) threads.

I've put up with absolute jerks that really knew their trade in something, believe me... and not only in my professional life, but in this forum. Actually, some of them can be tamed.

If you don't take this confusing advice about "jerkiness and technical prowess" separation, dear Tomba, you risk losing Newey. He can be a moron for some things and a genius for other things, Sheldon Cooper's style.

Accept it, the only guy that specializes in everything is me: I've specialized in more and more things during my life until I know almost nothing of almost everything.

BTW, can I also suggest the option to hide your rating number - for the people that don't really care. It should be visible upon profile visit, though, if someone is really interested.

Interesting idea, but I think it would just add a layer of complexity to something which really only serves as a point of pride/embarrassment for individual members, rather than as its intended shorthand for which members/posts are worth reading.

The current system is set up for being abused. A negative system will breed negativity.
A system with only positivity can only produce positivity. It´s not rocket science.

You could have two tags, informative and helpful.
blue stars and yellow stars would give people an idea of how informative or helpful this person is.
Or in other words, how valuable this persons thoughts and information is.

The moderator can handle the reported posts as it is in 99.9999% of all other internet forums on the internet.

It's beyond silly but:
I'm surprised anyone would you even consider discussing internet points' shades, I guess it's human psyche, some might even think their words have more value if number next to their name is appropriate. Or pushing the button proves their point, is substitute for posting or "dislike" of reality will change anything.

Starting (and ending really) point should be: you don't have to read a post to down or up vote. Technically you you don't have to have ability to read or write, visual representation of your thoughts known as typed language is not required. If you write something it can be right or wrong, based on facts or not but it's for everyone to see, every lack of merit can be pointed out. Voting is by definition valueless, mindless pushing of a button and it doesn't take "Newey" (shoot me...) in any field to realise that. Going into details like: "a single post can consist three different subjects multiplied by three different directions" is not required after that realisation.

If you're thinking about segregation of votes between silly racing and serious technical (aka "let's throw every possible idea and if one turns out to be true - group success by statistics") than it's going to work as well as separating threads that include voting and don't. Guess what, you can run to other thread and down-vote random post instead the one you can't, not that anyone's doing it. You'd really need descriptions like "estimates wrongly teams' strength balance for 10 races" and "finds 3 shadows on cars" plus weighing, equivalent would be -5 and +15 points. That is in case someone confuses "value" using simple mathematics.

I seem to have been the victim of some malicious up-voting. As in, getting no votes for providing factual evidence whilst those producing opinion and incorrect facts are up-voted because they are on the popular side of the argument. It feels a bit like bullying.

I’m a rather limited user of the forum and haven’t paid much attention to the rating system. However, I did click on “my votes” to find that something appears to be robo-voting for me. Is this common? Or did I unleash some unintended cascade by perhaps a key mistake?

What do you mean with robo-voting?
I checked your reputation changes and I have yet to find anything strange. Everything looks fine and a lot of different members are voting on your posts.
