Toto said today that the PU had made some progress- anyone know the specifics?
Presumably under the reliability banner?

As was said at the start of the season, Merc were waiting until they'd run one power unit and inspected it to see how much they can push the mapping safety. Doesn't need to be any upgraded parts for that.

Excellent- thought so.
That pleases me as that should make the pack far more competitive and also help overtaking a bit.
Just the works team who have taken the new ICE this week?

Power was up there today. No lack of power whatsoever. As with Renault. All four engines are about the same.

This caught my attention since I asked a friend of mine about how the FIA is handling the measurements of the temperature, and it looks like they measure the fuel temperature once it is put in the fuel tank and then the FIA relies on the teams' telemetry to monitor the fuel temperature, so I was wondering if Mercedes is doing something new with the way they handle the fuel temperature by using that shield on the back of the engine.

Ok the fuel will only get warmer after it is put into the tank. So starting at the minimum regulated tempersture... It can only go up.. Therefore to slow this phenomenon and thereby to extend the benefit of cool fuel, they insulate the fuel tank to reduce the heating from the airflows around it.

Possibly also to keep it cool from what was in there before?
One quip last week was a car late to the grid because the fuel was below the acceptable temperature.
I wondered if a 'contact' cooler could be removed before the car leaves the garage? A cool tank can only help.

I agree that restriction of the fuel temperature is a pointless nanny state.

Any news on lando’s apparent PU issues from this weekend? Down on power during the race and a PU change overnight from quali.

There were no issues on the PU itself.

There were problems with the sensor.

The knock sensor?

They don't really run a knock sensor as you'd know it, it's plasma discharge sensing through the plugs.
