Well, not that I don't think the transmission and (dis)charge losses can be improved:
  • Refining fossil fuel wastes a crapload of energy, which is conveniently forgotten when comparing efficiencies.
  • You can use the "waste" heat, for heating purposes. With an ICE you can only use a small fraction for heating the car in the winter.
  • You say ICE, if you don't mean it to be hybrid then it can't regenerate any energy when braking, unlike EVs.
  • No pollution of the air that you breathe. Powerplants can be at some distance with the pollutants filtered.
But all in all, it's true, electric is even a lot better if you generate power by a less wretched way. Such as nuclear, hydro, or solar.

Does a tunnel (running from the middle of the floor) and diffuser (starting 300 mm in front of rear wheel axel) of both 175mm high produce produce same downforce?

Depends what the regs are - a lot of performance in the current regs comes from the massive VGs at the tunnel inlet. A flat floor can produce a lot of downforce though, that said, I'm not sure the FIA want a lot of downforce with these regs. We'll have to wait and see what the text is in a few weeks.

Isn't the diffuser vortex which happens as the air leaves the diffuser at the very rear?

If the very short diffuser and no beam wing is accurate, it seems the FIA are very determined to reduce downforce!

But isn't underfloor downforce relatively not draggy?

If Stella's complaints of low corner speeds are to be addressed, while keeping low drag concept of the rules, surely the floor needs to be powered up?

It will be interesting to see whether the 2026 floor stays that simple with no features rear of the required turning vane device at the front corner. Keeping such areas free from devices might lead to closer racing.
