The gap to the top 3 is rather depressing.

They just got to keep plugging away at the chassis and the PU I guess.

I think its amazing if Honda PU is on the level of 2015 Ferrari PU whitout TJI.

The gap to Mercedes is ~1.3 seconds, but the gap to Ferrari is .5 - .6 seconds. With a decent engine upgrade they can be closer, at least be there in case someone up front makes a mistake.

You are right.
In lap 20 gap Vettel-Alonso was 9.5 seconds.
After that Alonso was behind K'Mag and used that time for fuel and tyre saving and gap went bigger.

nothing is depressing they will never have a good pace until they introduce their version of TJI so in germany nothing will change prepare your self for another big gap to the front 3

very interesting indeed

I'm sure they're working on something bespoke, the theory is proven, it's just that designing then manufacturing then testing then racing is not an overnight process.

Makes you wonder if combustion technology has been held back, simply because profit margins never generated any interest in doing so. In a way, having Honda talk about MGU-H's for road cars makes it seem like the regulations work somewhat. Achieving Mercedes levels of efficiency would certainly help your road cars. You'd have the luxury of having the best engines, and that's a very attractive selling point. That's besides the obvious power, fuel savings, licensing deals for the tech, etc.

Maybe if you combine enough hair-brained combustion schemes and exploit what you have, while having full backing from a major manufacturer and design everything to work in harmony, and 5 basically unlimited chances to get it right they'll figure it out.

There are plenty of hare-brained combustion schemes out there - none of which work.

TJI on the other hand was conceived and developed by some of the world's leading combustion researchers.

The only difference is budget and facilities, in the end it's still people that have to do the thinking. Just because you work for some large faceless corporation doesn't automatically bestow you with superhuman abilities. As technical abilities increase, different technologies become available. Mahle's TJI system is one way to do it, if it was the best way Ferrari would be stomping everyone into dust, it's clearly not the case. So maybe these world renown researchers still have a ways to go.

I think Hungry showed there is alot more than just a PU Gap to the front.

I thought Ferrari introduced TJI in Canada 2016?

I don't know, a 19km/h advantage on just about every straight starts adding up, more than carrying one or two km/h on a corner.

The top speed in Hungary in mclaren much better than TR .it was very good. I expect a a similar performance in Germany. I just wish they took out unnecessary downforce element that TR does not run , like monkey wing especially in power circuits

you unlock engine power you unlock the chassis
Ferrari having TJI more than a year now , IMHO Honda try to advance 2 years in just one year to catch up
