Not so far off-topic, but Honda letting J.Rae go to Kawasaki, rather than giving him Pedrosa's ride - was a blunder..

Even if very few successful WSBK race/championship winners have gone on to do as well - in Grand Prix racing,
Dani has IMO, had much more than a 'fair go' at it, too..

it was when Pedrosa (i think) was injured Rea was 'drafted' in and did a superlative job.
this is nothing against Dani at all.

Lets be honest, Dani has been crap for years! If Honda are not offering Zarco that ride, they must be insane. Surely MM isn't holding on to Dani like Seb is with Kimi ???

If Zarco is unavailable for any reason, Give the bike to Cal. At least he has a proper go at it. Dani just finsihed 3-7th every week. For the love of god, let the factory honda have a 5 or a 35 on it. If thats not possible, a 42 or even a 21 [-o<

2017 = 2 wins; 3 seconds; 5 thirds = not that bad considering everything.
Its easy to get the wrong impression about Dani, but when you think about it he fits in very well as the other Honda factory rider.

How do Dani's 2017 results compare with his long-term mean, let alone those of his team-mates, eh then - Johnny?

Brilliant/unbeatable - 'on his day' - Dani surely is, but he's never looked capable of being Moto GP Champion.

I think it´s fairly obvious Honda does not want two champions into his team, so Dani is a good match for them

No so sure about that Andres, AFAIR - Honda have never run 'team orders' for their race riders, unlike Ducati..

Yesbut, i was sticking up for him as i thought the criticism was a bit unfair, he does fit in well and the honda was not a good bike last year unless all the ducks were lined up. so it is fair enough to look around at others but if it was my money paying: Zarco or Folger if he gets better, Dovi (who was once a journeyman), jorge, either of the espargaro brothers and thats about it IMHO. havent looked at the other classes but marqez, a. might be a consideration??

AFAIR, Honda let Dovi go.. & then Casey told them to stick it, too..

I'd reckon.. Honda likely wishes they hadn't let Dovi & Rea go, now..

The Rea thing was just plain wrong, most probably politics, but who knows Johnny might have not been happy with their offer. Dovis transformation into a mature smart skilled pilot has been really something, new chick, new bike, audi input, casey doing development....

Honda has never really wanted their Superbike racers to 'graduate' to their Grand Prix team, though..

Best they've ever gotten, was a 'wildcard' ride, or a test session, like Fogarty & Slight, way back in the day, AFAIR..

I think that is because there was too much difference between the class specs, but now much closer. interesting comparison which would be a better feeder series moto2 or wsbk? see melandri DID NOT like the new elecronics of the motogp bikes (around the time of the 800's) and went back to wsbk where he was quiet and now a contender...so much different to F1

Successful G.P. riders have almost always found it easier to get wins after dropping down to WSBK,
- if they get a decent factory-backed ride..

But very few WSBK stars have 'cut the mustard' as G.P. racers..
& now Dorna owns both series, ol' Caramello is dumbing-down the Superbikes, making the likehood - even less so.
