Apparently with this announcement the ACO decided OEM support is now mandatory. So now SCG, ByKolles, and anyone else who isnt a multi-billion dollar corporation is basically up the creek. Its LMP1-H all over again, when will they learn?

The ACO has clarified that that’s not the case and that they will approve entries on a case by case basis.

Gosh how will we cope without the annual ByKolles fire?

Historically privateers have been satellite/customer operations.

The king is dead, long live the king!? Hypercars obsoleted already?
WEC and IMSA made a peace treaty to unify their classes (great!), and it involves a new top-tier class. Kind-of.
Beginning with LeMans 2022, WEC's top class will consist of both Hypercars and LMDh. LMDh will be traditional looking modern prototypes that are similar to IMSA's current DPI prototypes. So Hypercars will only have one year at LeMans (2021) at the top of the roost before they are joined by LMDh cars. WEC and IMSA will keep the very different Hypercars and LMDh cars equal through BOP Balance of Parity adjustments. I'm sure this will cause no problems or controversy.
The combo of Racer.com and Marshall Pruett are probably the best source on the planet for info-

This feels like a mistake. The lmdh cars could share a common chassis but it should be based around a gt styled car not the traditional prototype design. They'll probably have a huge drag advantage over the hypercars and pegging them back with bop is probably going to look similar to the rebel Vs Toyota story over the past year.

Oreca already cancelling their involvement with Peugeot in favour of the new common regs. Why bother spending 50 million when you can develop a competitive vehicle for for 10?

So here is the Glickenhaus Hypercar...seems long to me!
Powered by a 3L TT V6 branded Glickenhaus...a shame as i was expecting an Alfa Romeo engine as the design looked like an old Alfa Romeo prototype!

Peugeot WEC project still ’on track’ following Rebellion withdrawal
Jean-Marc FINOT, PSA Motorsport Director: « We are currently in the early stage of building up our WEC techical project and we acknowledge REBELLION’s decision that appoint us in a direction to modify the configuration of our operational system by 2022.
Their decision to withdraw does not change PEUGEOT’s program in endurance. We continue working with enthusiasm in a configuration refocused with our partner TOTAL, to design a race car that will be a source of pride for PEUGEOT and that will be perfectly alligned with its energetic transition. »

Peugeot are going for the Daytona model aren't they!? Significantly cheaper than developing and launching a hypercar even for a small run.

Peugot and Oreca separated basically the moment LMDh was finalized and Oreca decided to focus on their LMP2 program and LMDh modifications of the same. Which also lead to Rebellion Racing dissolving after this season, Peugot will now be partnering with Total Racing.
So I don't think Peugot going LMDh is assured, otherwise they wouldn't have separated from Oreca.

Oh God...What the hell!
This Stroll idiot has to be behind that!! And i was so happy that he will get Aston Martin into F1 in 2021...but i never thought that this would happen in turn!!
Absolute disaster for ACO - Le Mans! What a shame...

I also see the cancellation following on from the WEC only having one year with hypercars as the top class, to be followed by a new top class that looks like IMSA DPi prototypes.
And really, how many top-level racing programs does a small, struggling car company need?

Not surprised, never seemed like it was going to happen from the start.

Yea, lack of hypercar consistency in top class led to Aston departure.
https://racer.com/2020/02/19/aco-imsa-r ... rcar-plan/
The good news for WEC is that if everyone (Toyota) drops hypercar and goes with LMDh cars, then WEC will not have to use such a sledgehammer approach to Balance of Parity.
If only Toyota continues with hypercar then it's a nightmare for WEC because despite all the best intentions in the world, every race will come down to the BoP comparisons between cars (hypercar vs. LMDh) that are not even very similar.
