There's no 0-6° movement.

6° is maximum Total range.

That means that for the sake of being able to decrease the flap (i remind you the purpose of the flap is balance tweak, and in wake you can have both understeer and oversteer) if needed you need to go below your initial position (lablled as 0°).

Thus the range is +3°/-3°.

And the rules are clear: one use of the knob= 1 adjustement.

If 6 degrees is the total range, surely it could be 0/+6 or -3/+3 depending on setup. Anywhere between -6/0 and 0/+6. I guess it depends on your reference point.

Do the rules state how many buttons are allowed for the movable wing? I was thinking the driver could have more than one button. For example : 0 degrees, 3 degrees and 6 degrees buttons or even 6 buttons (unlikely), one for each degree of variance allowed.

What's the use of 0 to 6? it means you can't correct any overtseer then.

Zero will be a different angle compared to the reference plane at Monza as compared to Monaco. Zero will be the optimum setting of preference for most of the lap of a specific circuit. The adjustment could be +6 or -6 from the baseline, baseline being defined as the optimal setting of preference for the entire lap.

Look, all maths start somewhere. I will trim the adjustable wing for my primary setup. I will then decide if there is one area on track that could be improved by a higher or lower attitude for the adjustable wing.

It could go either way. To assume that the basic design limits the "baseline" position for a particular setup is somewhat simplistic.

Set the optimal position for a lap and then dial an adjustment for a specific corner or straight.

Indeed, indeed.

But that specific corner will probably be under a degree away from the lap optimal - simply due to aero-balance reasons.



The 6 degrees is so large (in setup maps terms) that the extremeties will only be approached in the wake of another car.

That not the purpose of the adjustement. The adjustment is there for in wake balance reasons so doing 0-+6/-6 will prevent you from altering oversteer/understeer in wake.

I understand that's what the OWG intended it for, but I wouldn't doubt that it will be used more creatively.

Would be pretty likely if it was not intended to cure a balance problem in wake and that the range was unlimited.

Now nothing prevents you from using the +3/-3 the same way you offered.
changing a flap by 3° is a pretty significant change in loads.
