I don't take position yet. That one person shows a flag doesn't mean he's in favour with ALL in his country. I feel proud of my country, though horrible things happenned. Flags don't represent just the politics of a country, it represent tradition, family, culture, music, land, etc.. It's not all about politics.

One can show a flag as a way of saying thanks to all the people that supported a driver. A driver, as Webber, gets lots of support from his local fans. As a way of support you show the flag regardless of current politics.


If USF1 had a car, there would be probably Jose Maria Lopez driving for the team. Pechito Lopez had secured fundings from the government. Would you believe it would still be bad to show the flag?

The Scottish flag can never be incorrect, nor can the English.

Indeed. It's only when they added the Ireland bit to the Union Flag that it became possible to fly it incorrectly.

So the Irish mucked it up again - but much less so than the English heinously did to Ireland

It appears according to The Flag Institute http://www.flaginstitute.org/index.php?location=7.2 that the Union Flag/Jack is hung correctly - its all about the broad white on the top to the left again folks.

It depends if there is a "front". If the flag is hanging from a horizontal pole against a wall, or between the arches of an entrance, etc. then there is an obvious "front" and the placement would be as if the flag was hanging vertically against a wall. For most flags that means that the reverse of the flag is displayed with what would normally have been the top of the flag on the left. The exception is the British flag which shows the obverse with what would have been the top of the flag on the right - this difference is due to the complex geometry of the flag and the seniority of the individual components.

Sorry but you 'hang' human beings and pictures, you 'fly' a flag.
I have never been on a military parade and seen a flag 'hung' with due ceremony.

@autogyro you may well be right, and yes you normally fly a flag, but these flags are not flying they are being hung!

Just like you would hang a picture, or a carpet on a wall!

In which case, no matter what is on them they are banners and not flags.

No they are still flags, but hung as a banner. IMHO

The purpose of a flag or ensign is to be an icon designed to receive due respect in ceremonial and to show others what they are dealing with.
A banner is more just a modern day bling item for marketing.
