Does anyone realise this?!!

Where are connections to the intake plenum?!

They should be at least wrapping around the intake pipe.
They are out of sight!

Mercedes intake for comparison....

What is Honda doing here?..
Probably just hidden behind the upper section of that metal shielding. Ferrari didn't have a very big intake into the plenum last year quit compact. Think it was only the mercdes that had that huge plenum with the dual intakes.

The metal shielding is the intake plenum. Honda's test engines have an Alu plenum. Presumably they'll be carbon for the homologated PU.

I'm not an engineer but I have looked at as many images of the various PU and wondered if this could be a possible layout for the Honda unit, sorry MS paint is the best I have got.

If I am not wrong Renault had a launching system, at least between 2003 and 2005, which was the best of the field. Alonso is good at doing this but sometimes Renault had a surrealistic advantange in that aspect. For example I remember Canada 2005.
I think overall speaking Alonso is one of best starters of the field. His spatial awareness and fast reactions is one of the best in the business. What makes him so special is that he has the skill to spot gaps to take different lines entering the first turn, which offers better drive off the first turn. I don't think it's because of the launch system of that Renault, that Alonso makes good starts. Give him any car that doesn't seem down on power and he'll make the most of it at the start. If Mclaren solve their PU issues, I expect Alonso to be very strong off the line as well.

I am not denying the fact that Alonso is quite good doing it, but between 2003-2005/6 Renault had a system which made the difference, because also Trulli and Fisichella did amazing starts with those cars, and they were not as good as Alonso is.

thats pretty much how I imagine it to be, but Honda did say they were running different engines at each test so no one really knows what they are running.
lets hope for some better pictures this weekend :)

Lets just hope that McLaren are as lazy and bad at hiding the Honda power unit as they were with the Mercedes unit at Melbourne last year... We'll know what the layout is then.

Some people were seriously P'od when the picture of the front of the Merc unit turned up on the internet last March.

Ok, can someone explain me how they are able to have a different PU in each car?

They would have to use an incredibly flexible transmission to have both cars powered by the same PU. "Jenson can you slow down please, the driveshaft from your PU won't reach my car"
