For full clarification I want to say that I did not intend to call the OP racist, but rather I intended to imply that his post can be construed as racist. After some discussion with the OP I fully accept that he had no intention to offend but it must be said even without that intention it can still be offensive to some.

I ask posters to consider other peoples feelings before posting things that can be considered culturally or racially insensitive... this should be easy on a technical site.

Well, I don't know what's worse: if some people (Islamatron, specifically) claiming everyone that makes fun of a non-Caucasian person is racist or if the fact that a thread like this exists in EVERY F1 Forum. Don't you find this thing extremely boring?

People... I really feel sorry for the intellectual level we have descended to. F1 Quizzes, Look alikes thread... what's next? A What the --- Is This thread? A thread for knitting tricks? A Nascar vs F1 thread? A cooking recipes thread?

What about a thread for birthday's congratulations? Wouldn't that be great? Wait, I got it! A thread devoted to racism in F1... that would make me happy (it would give us an excuse or two to prune the roster). No, no. That's it: nazi gay drivers and their black lovers!!! That would make EVERYBODY happy (apparently). We could use some material from E! Channel...

Don't you have the time (or the interest) to find out how an F1 car works? Well, lemme tell you, if you don't, perhaps this is not your kind of site. Certainly, with threads like these, is not becoming mine.

Enjoy it, people. Actually, just google for the pictures and post them here. I'm sure we have a couple of these pathetic "I'm-bored-at-work" threads around the site.

Thank you for your guidance Ciro. Perhaps F1Technical is perhaps not the perfect forum for such a thread. In my defence, I merely concluded that people who enjoy the spectacle which we call F1, knowing the personalities involved, might be keen to have a laugh for five minutes of fun.

I agree with your comments RE the accusation(s) of racism, and find it amusing that if someone suggests that someone of a similar genetic make-up to someone else looks alike, AND either or both of these people also happen to be non-white then the suggestion is clearly racist?!? No, I don't understand it either.

I trust that the presence of this thread does not offend you too much, but if you feel that it is not appropriate within the bounds of F1Technical, which is arguably true, then please go ahead and delete it forthwith. I shan't be ofended whatsoever.

My dear 42, our taste as mods is of no importance here. Actually, a funny thread once in a while is more than welcomed. We only come here when called by a report, as in this case.

The problem I see is the abundance of "funny" threads (and I'm not blaming YOU, but the generality of the forum) that degenerate in empty arguments and insults, and the apparent scarcity of members inclined to other kind of conversations. It's the "easy way" to post, if you ask me. Too many people believe the others have not read what they've read and have no originality (apparently). I might be too harsh in my judgment: I already passed through that "phase", but years ago.

Frankly, as some people could have noticed, I don't comment anymore: you start a thread not devoted to infighting and the answers are few. We have members that post 30 times a day, and none of those posts has anything but opinions, from my point of view...

Well, suit yourselves, but the members that work in F1 (or in any form of racing), are not so amused: they are complaining and leaving. Take that as a judgment of the quality of some contributions. I cannot talk for them (although they report or, better yet, they used to), but I can talk for myself: I already forgot when was the last time I came to this forum enchanted by the technical arguments.

That's why I've been lately asking for some kind of forum relaunching, with different requisites than number of posts for membership. Sigh, perhaps some day we'll have the time. I repeat: it's a systemic problem, not your fault. Most F1 forums are like that: an empty repetition of accusations and slightly disguised favoritism.

I have suggested to have a section for "noobie infighting", open to anyone, and some kind of "I like it/I don't like it" tag to determine who can post in a proposed, restricted technical section (eliminating the information about number of posts).

We, mods, are too devoted to free speech to be around expelling people: that doesn't make mods happy in any way. If inclined to that, we would transform our souls into the spirit of a dictator: I hate that kind of site moderation, if I may say so.

Meanwhile, every insult, every narrow-minded comment only add to the facts that the owners of the site have to consider to reach a decision. I've already said what I think we must do. Meanwhile, all I can resort to is irony and sincerity: I cannot change the people here; of that I'm certain.

Trying to convince "the Internet" is as futile as grabbing water or holding sand in your fist: an empty proposition. Also, going around this wide world insulting people that disagrees with you is more stupid than rude. I only wish for some members to understand those two sentences. But, again, I've seen this happen to practically every site in the net.

Of course, the only way to change this situation is through example, but I simply have no more time to go around "changing" the spirit of threads through good humour, technical knowledge or equanimity. There are too many of them and I have, perhaps too little of that. I used to be able: now I'm just bored for the lack of companions in that task.

So, my dictum is: you wanted it, you got it. Enjoy. So, what are you, people, doing, just waiting for the "gay nazi drivers" thread to appear? Start it, c'mon: at least that would be original... 8)

Ciro, firstly, thank you for your due dilligence in having A) noticed my appeal and B) taking the time to respond so thoroughly.

I do, however think that a few points need to be made.

1. You don't give yourself (as both Moderators and site owners), nor the bulk of members of this site enough credit. I personally feel that this site has been incredibly engaging and very informative. Let's take for example the discussion about the McLaren F-Duct innovation earlier this year. I suspect that a number of news agencies used the diagnoses offered by members of this site as their source of info for this innovation, and it was shortly before this that I myself became a member.

2. You're absolutely right, one will never be able to really change someone's mind about something that they feel strongly about.

3. Consider me, at least as a proponent for this site, my friends are doubtless bored with my bleating about how they should be looking at this site for information and general engaging discussion, albeit sometimes with differing views.

A big thank you to all you guys as moderators and site owners. I do my best to check this site daily myself. Keep up the great work!

EDIT: Typo

I'd have to agree with Ciro about technical posters, such as myself, being driven away, at one time I submitted lengthy posts linked to a multitude of tech links, but now often consider it a waste of time to bother submitting to F1T, no one ever appeared(sign) to read and never commented on submitted materials. It's almost an exercise in self contempt to write a detailed technical post nowadays. I just submitted to the rotary valve thread - a subject I find very interesting - but instead of a lengthy commentary or multiple links- I just chucked out a few pictures.

honestly speaking,I have only recently took the time to look into this thread and the
pitbabes thread as well..and it definitely is not why i´m active here ,it is for the love of the sport and my interest in technology and F1 in particular ..for me there is nowhere else to find competent and inspiring counterparts to share observations ,
discuss on base of limited information and see what other petrolheads think about whats going on in F1 technically.(And i count driver/team performance to this as well)

so from my side : big thanks to those who have built and contribute to this site and moderators feel free to swing the axe for anything NOT belonging to this site.

My only reservation with some of the last few comments would be technical aptitude.
Some of us "lesser" F1 fans would like to understand better.
My technical understanding of F1 is very much in its infancy, I try to learn from what I read on this site. I would say in the time I have been a member, my knowledge has increased almost exponentially.

I think the issue here is the questions us less understanding fans are posing to be the real problem. Threads like these are fun and all, but are they really going to attract the scarbs of this world?

I thoroughly enjoy reading posters like scarbs posts(his website is spot on too) because even though I never fully understand the technical side, it is laid out in english we can all understand, with concepts stripped down to what average joes comprehend(almost  )
So if we all make a concerted effort to contribute to the posing the right questions, these guys will definatly be on hand to help us out.

No more political crap, just real F1 fans.

there are no dumb questions only dumb answers ..
and of course we only can ask ..and hope for some milk being put on the table...so
we might understand a bit more...
as we see every other weekend even the guys in it don´t fully understand so it is
fully acceptable to have no clue at all but ask for a little bit of information ,just to be able to appreciate the complexity of the task..
