My dear 42, our taste as mods is of no importance here. Actually, a funny thread once in a while is more than welcomed. We only come here when called by a report, as in this case.
The problem I see is the abundance of "funny" threads (and I'm not blaming YOU, but the generality of the forum) that degenerate in empty arguments and insults, and the apparent scarcity of members inclined to other kind of conversations. It's the "easy way" to post, if you ask me. Too many people believe the others have not read what they've read and have no originality (apparently). I might be too harsh in my judgment: I already passed through that "phase", but years ago.
Frankly, as some people could have noticed, I don't comment anymore: you start a thread not devoted to infighting and the answers are few. We have members that post 30 times a day, and none of those posts has anything but opinions, from my point of view...
Well, suit yourselves, but the members that work in F1 (or in any form of racing), are not so amused: they are complaining and leaving. Take that as a judgment of the quality of some contributions. I cannot talk for them (although they report or, better yet, they used to), but I can talk for myself: I already forgot when was the last time I came to this forum enchanted by the technical arguments.
That's why I've been lately asking for some kind of forum relaunching, with different requisites than number of posts for membership. Sigh, perhaps some day we'll have the time. I repeat: it's a systemic problem, not your fault. Most F1 forums are like that: an empty repetition of accusations and slightly disguised favoritism.
I have suggested to have a section for "noobie infighting", open to anyone, and some kind of "I like it/I don't like it" tag to determine who can post in a proposed, restricted technical section (eliminating the information about number of posts).
We, mods, are too devoted to free speech to be around expelling people: that doesn't make mods happy in any way. If inclined to that, we would transform our souls into the spirit of a dictator: I hate that kind of site moderation, if I may say so.
Meanwhile, every insult, every narrow-minded comment only add to the facts that the owners of the site have to consider to reach a decision. I've already said what I think we must do. Meanwhile, all I can resort to is irony and sincerity: I cannot change the people here; of that I'm certain.
Trying to convince "the Internet" is as futile as grabbing water or holding sand in your fist: an empty proposition. Also, going around this wide world insulting people that disagrees with you is more stupid than rude. I only wish for some members to understand
those two sentences. But, again, I've seen this happen to practically every site in the net.
Of course, the only way to change this situation is through example, but I simply have no more time to go around "changing" the spirit of threads through good humour, technical knowledge or equanimity. There are too many of
them and I have, perhaps too little of
that. I used to be able: now I'm just bored for the lack of companions in that task.
So, my dictum is: you wanted it, you got it. Enjoy. So, what are you, people, doing, just waiting for the "gay nazi drivers" thread to appear? Start it, c'mon: at least that would be original...
