Just a note on the comparison tests magazines or show will produce. Car makers will usually lend a car for the test, and most of the time they "cheat" a little. Either with semi slick tyres, or an opened up engine... In France they compared the Mc and 458 on 2 tracks, small track and big track. Results were Mc faster on track with longer strait and slower on track with most curves.
One fun point is that on a big performance comparison test with mid engined supercars, Audi sent an R8 with 20 000 km on it! while all the others were brand new. Gotta have faith in their products

They took their time with it, didn't they? I've heard they also destroyed one in the process.

Street engines usually gets "loose" and gain some more after a few kms...

For UK viewers, BBC2 has the MP4-12C as the focus of the tonight's episode of "How to build a..." mini-series.

Highly recommended viewing. May not always be possible to understand all things Ron, but his vision, passion and enthusiasm for McLaren remains undimmed.

My 2 cents--
I've seen the MP4-12C two times now at Cars and Coffee events here in Southern California. The first time I saw it I thought it was good looking, better than pictures. The second time I really liked it. It is significantly smaller than the current generation mid-engine Ferrari. This gives the McLaren a serious purposeful look that no amount of styling can create.
If you park a Ferrari 308 from ~1981 directly next to the current mid-engine Ferrari the first thing that strikes you is not the styling differences of 30 years, but rather how f@cking enormous the current car is. The MP4-12C has impressive restraint in terms of pure size.
Edit-- Interesting correction/modification. I just looked at dimensions for the MP4-12C and it is within a fraction of an inch of the Ferrari in L,W,H. The smaller look must actually be caused be the styling. I would guess the greenhouse has a lot to do with that. Interesting lesson for me. I still like the McLaren better.

Has anybody watched Clarkson's Powered Up DVD? I mean MP4-12C is just phenomenal! It thrashed the 911 GT2 RS! I couldn't believe that it did. I really loved that part where Nissan GT-R beat the McLaren in 16.5-meter drag race. That Nissan is a Tsar bomb!!!
