OK,
so time for a small disappointment.
As it is only a pre race, I only took my best parts of 2015 to build a new car.
The engine cover is new for the new cooling solution. The new suspension cover was a first shot. It is not good but was at least not terrible. Also I repositioned the exhaust system. The main goal of the design is to figure out how well the new cooling package rules and the official results correlate with mine. Unfortunately we will not find out after all.


As currently I do not have very much time, I have not started on the new 2016 MantiumRacer, so this might also be my car for the first championship race.

We're 2 mechanical engineering students from Vienna. We don't have very much CFD experience but are very interested in aerodynamics.

Sorry I have some balance issues, so it will be difficult to win anyway.

What about your cooling ducts? Finally I went for Opt1, not for a technical advantage, simply because I had no time to test Opt2.

Great, your car looks like a very good start. I am not sure if your front diffuser/wing assembly is aggressive enough but soon we will see some numbers.

Well I wanted to go for Cooling Option 2 without even considering Option 1. Now it looks like a Cooling Option 2 Fall Back.

I cannot wait to see the whole lineup and soon the numbers. The winter without KVRC was too long.

I will choose Opt2 when it will be available, considering that it is the most interesting option, from a design and simulation point of view, but I have the impression that at the moment there are too many constraints for Opt2 (es. inlet surface area, radiator angle) that can't balance the most complicated design (to design an efficient cooling ducts is not so easy).

PS: your engine intake looks huge compared to mine, and even more if compared to other teams. Have you tested it with OCCFD? Mine a surface integral of pèressure around 10 Pa*m^2

I know. More than once I remeasured because it looks so odd. But from all I can tell it has the correct size.
For the new 2016 MantiumRacer I have a better position in mind anyways. Considering how much it affects rear wing air flow there is no chance it is staying there.

For the new 2016 MantiumRacer I have a better position in mind anyways. Considering how much it affects rear wing air flow there is no chance it is staying there.

In my design it does not have important effects on the rear wing: it only generates some drag. I'm planning a different position, but at the moment (now I can tell it), the most important issue of my car, at the moment, is the lack of front downforce. I expect a COP around 2.2m...

To anyone who has occfd correctly running:

What version are you on, what's your system config, which settings do you use? What are your pc specs and what OS do you operate on?

I'm having another 'issue' where in simulation 1, my C Drive gets absolutely hammered, and I can't do anything else on my pc while sim1 is running. I went to task manager and it shows my C Drive as 100% in use, all the way throughout sim1. Drive usage is normal throughout sim0 and the rest of the analysis (until it throws an error)

Is this the case for everyone?

P.S. My .stl files are all on another drive, E Drive. And so are all my documents. So occfd saves logs and outputs into E Drive. So why is C drive so busy in sim1?

About drive C:: how much RAM is installed? Could it be swapping? Consider that the simulation requires about 6gb, so 8gb of RAM is the minimum, 16gb would be perfect.

I have 8gb ram installed.

It is probable that if you have an internal mesh issue (or, sometimes, even if everything is ok), your RAM is not enough and the OS uses C: as an extension of the memory. You should check the occupied memory during the run.

I have 8gb ram but have had no end of issues running OCCFD locally, just completely locks up my PC. Back in the old Khamsin plugin days I had no issue running simulations on a 6gb system.
