*looks at camera while setting record* "piece man!". Even if that was scripted, it made laugh for 5 minutes. Brilliant. Brilliant lap too, squeezed really everything out of that car. The way he drove the second last corner really was like he tackled the mclaren last year through similar corners. And like mentioned: he is VERY relaxed! I'd like to see how well he can drive a subtop car without pressure.

I think it will be a more meaningful comparison if both LH and SV are invited to ROC this year.

That Lap of Lewis was very exciting. Really on the edge and very agressive.

In direct comparison you can see how much smoother Vettel drives, where Hamilton throws it in, Vettel just lets it roll. Probably a reason why he is better at conserving tires than Hamilton.

The time difference is just too big to be true. In those small cars it's very hard to be massively quicker than anybody else due to the limit being low and predictable. I can only imagine Hamilton with his many more practise laps than Vettel had (Hamilton was there twice now) he built up more confidence in the car / track.

Also: Note how different Vettel and Hamilton take Hammerhead. I still think Lewis cuts too much, hits the white line on both left- and righthander. Vettel violently makes sure to not hit any line. I guess half a second is already lost there (or illegally gained by Lewis )

Overall Lewis' lap was quicker, but not by 1.1 seconds....

I find the argument of "he was there twice" a little bit overused. There are several years between the 2 attempts, plus the circumstances were very different. The learning effect is minimal.

i don't know why people can't just give him credit. why does the lap have to be illegal, or a fix or a conspiracy.

I've read somewhere that Alonso lend his 6 tenths to Lewis just for this event.

In every recent interview he looks so much more relaxed and the question about not doing so much corporate work was answered with a big grin. I hope all this shows through in his racing and he gets a competitive car very soon.

looking at his lap time in the wet, which was 1.44.7 secs, makes the 1.42.9 in the dry seem entirely possible.

I personally think that it proves that Lewis is the fastest driver on the grid, just there is a luckier driver and a better all rounder on the same grid who have more DWCs.

I was impressed with how he took 'the second to last bend' as its referred to by Top Gear
