Despite using different front wing’s versions , Raikkonen and Massa used the same rear wing which was similar to the one used at Silverstone

Ferrari during the free practices tested also a modified front chassis version with raised bodywork on either side of the nose around the pick-up points of the front suspension's push rods similar to the one already used by the Red Bull RB5 . Ferrari has become the third team after Brawn GP and Toyota to test such a configuration

So, what's the intended purpose of these monocoque ridges? I've always thought RBR did it to get around minimum cross-section regulation.

On the Ferraris, they're clearly not structural. If they were for aero, why not just put fins there like past (Newey) McLarens? This part of the car isn't subject to the 75mm-radius rule, is it?

I think they were testing driver visibility (to consider RB5-like nose for 2010). Toyota's uber-boxy version definitely didn't help aero.

it cant be just driver visibility
the raised section acts as a flip ups , which help in getting More air to the Raised rear wing this season?!
Newey found it out first and all the teams are trying it
i dont know about Toyota, but rest of the teams are most probably using it for what i said
if they want to test visibility why would they leave a gap in between?
and why would RBR have it from the beginning of the season??
its surely is a Aero device.

yes this part is subject to minimum radius
otherwise we would have seen all that nose scoops from 2008 in 2009 aswell
the only part of the body (other than the wings) which dont have minimum radius rule is the part around the sidepods, thats were you see all the flipups, airflow conditioner etc etc

Ferrari used a shorter chord at main plane and a taller leading edge, curved upwards towards the middle. Rear wing's endplates do not have any gills which should help the air to flow and penetrate better at top speeds.

On the surface of it I wouldn't say it a desirable shape all by itself. I wonder if there is some new mechanical addition or if maybe this is due to crash structure rules??? Most curious.

Those have been there since the launch. At that time and without specifics, scarbs was told by Ferrari that they have an aerodynamic purpose.

Sorry about that. It looks like they are probably there for the side impact crash structure. I guess it allows them to move the sidepods back as far as possible. I had not noticed them before.
