I'm thinking it's geared really long to get to 150 mph.

Here is a page with he 50cc records by year. The Buddfab bike is near the bottom.

Edit: added link to 50cc page

It probably has weight added most land speed record cars add ballast for traction and stability instead of adding downforce and drag. Mass has little affect on top speed just acceleration.

And to go a little further, we aren't dealing with huge horsepower here, less than 20-25 for sure. Top speed is mainly a function of drag coefficient, frontal area, and HP. Weight is only a small function of this, though it does affect how fast you will achieve your top speed. There is a calculator at the bottom of this page that you can play with, along with some suggested values for a streamliner.

Thanks guys.

hpras. Tall gearing only affects first gear acceleration.

I figured all gears would be affected as they would change the overall gearing with the final chain drive ratio. Looks like an April RS 50 engine, they topped out at about 100kmh.

Anyway, we should have less of this and more pretty engine pictures before it devolves into a horsepower vs torque argument :)

So here I have the Moto Guzzi V8 500cc motorcycle engine from 1955-1957 for their Grand Prix racing team. Produced 78hp. Ultimately, however, not a success.

Sadly, the Guzzi GP 500 V8 was dropped before fully showing its potential..

Perhaps however, it provided (false) inspiration for the later..
..( & also unsuccessful) Honda NR 500 - defacto - V8?

Edit: NR 500 ( "Never Ready"- was the cruel nickname applied) not NS 500,
& that budget 2T triple NS 500 - did win F. Spencer & Honda a 1st No 1 500cc Champ spot..
