With all this lack of ERS, the tyres are not getting stressed due to lack of downforce from lack of power. Again cyclic as a package.
Could you clarify this please? 1. Until now I've only heard that they lack ICE performance- but also ERS? 2. Do you mean tires not being stressed because they run lower downforce levels? If they do run lower df levels then yes you can expect them to make 'exponential' gains if the performance goes up. But otherwise there's no reason to believe a more powerful engine would stress the tires more- they're all grip limited.

As for Alonso's 2.5 sec number. You can bet that it's fairly accurate, it's most likely a McLaren engineer that did that calculation. However.. It's only 80% of the story. Because IF they lack cornering exit speed (lower apex speed or exit speed as a result from suspension or downforce) that speed difference also adds up over the entire following straight.

Whatever happens this Honda project is doomed. Let's say that they'll find the right direction and come to Merc 2016 levels in 2017. Then it will take another 1-2 yrs before they're on par with the rest. McLaren will be long gone to another supplier and we'll have a different engine format looming around the corner. So Honda should have stuck with their 2016 layout and work on evolution vs revolution. Just like Renault and Ferrari have done.

1 sec increase the gap from the top on 2017 vs 2016 ....and the smaller gain of all teams...1st renault 2nd ferrari ...the 1st sector its similar to last year ..and the top 3 all gain around half second ...look like the others engines have the same developent gains ...

Hmmm, Alo top speed no more than 10kph lower than lance Williams with lowest drag, wonder where the 3 sec Come from
There are losing ~7kph over 3.2km of the track, and not making it up in the corners, that's where.

Well they're at least faster than 2016 Ferrari engine. That is the difference between 2016 and 2017 engines.

Slowest of 2017 engines, Honda should not live in the past.

Let's hope they have an all new PU for Alo @ Spain.

I wouldn't be surprised that they already new there was a problem and chose not to change the PU. Using another PU, knowing that their wasn't a chance of getting into the points, would be a waste.

At this track even ferrari engine not good enough at straights. Renaults gap much bigger. In this conditions Honda's situation is not worse than before.
Merc won this race with just straight line speed

No doubt they're not good enough, I still don't think they'd be anywhere near the front with the chassis they have.

The engine update will cut the deficit to the current Renault engine by half, so the total deficit to the top will be cut down to ~2 seconds, maybe a little less depending on what McLaren can do for the chassis. The best that McLaren/Honda can hope for is a 1 second deficit to the front runners by the end of the year.

Sure hope so this time around, McLaren does not belong in this position.
